In recent months, Prime Minister Hun Sen seem to promote his eldest son, Hun Manet, on a grand scale, including sending him to fight in the frontline against Thai troops, in a move seen by observers as a succession plan for his son to succeed him when he leaves power.
The latest move to elevate him is Hun Manet is among Cambodia's delegates led by Foreign Minister Hor Namhong to an Asean Meeting in Indonesia on the Khmer-Thai conflict be held later today, Tuesday 22nd February.
Hun Manet had been mentioned in several Thai newspaper reports as the one who led the fighting against Thai troops in Preah Vihear from 4-7 February and had also led many negotiations with Thai commanders on the conflict.
Thai fighter jet violates Cambodian airspace
At 6:20 a.m on Monday morning, on Thai F-16 fighter jet had violated Cambodian airspace over O'Smach Checkpoint in Oddar Meanchey province.
A Cambodian military officer said the Thai jet was making a reconnaissance flight over the area to spy on Cambodian troops and military base.
The report said that the jet was flying from west to east and entered about one kilometre deep inside Khmer territory.
Preah Vihear to go to international court if Indonesia meeting does not resolve the conflict
Foreign Minister Hor Namhong told reporters at Phnom Penh Airport on Monday, 21st February, before leaving for a meeting in Indonesia that the Preah Vihear conflict will be taken to the International Court of Justice if the Indonesian meeting does not resolve the issue.
Mr. Hor Namhong's comment came after there are reports that Cambodia had hired 3 foreign lawyers to prepare the Preah Vihear legal case to lodge with the International Court of Justice to ask it to re-interpret the 1962 verdict in which it adjudicated to give the temple ownership to Cambodia.
