A Khmer girl becomes the new James Bond girl

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqNlQ-pop50

Metro/Handout/Sony Pictures Actress Bérénice Marlohe will star as Severine in the upcoming James Bond film Skyfall.
From Cambodia with love: Meet Severine

May 1, 2012
By Kieron Monks
Metro World News (Canada)

When the model and TV actress first heard that Skyfall auditions were to be held Paris, she became obsessed. “I sent my reel to anyone on Facebook related to the movie”, Bérénice Marlohe recalls.

But after the casting director got in touch and she found herself testing scenes with Daniel Craig and Sam Mendes, the pressure hit home. “There were moments when I felt scared and trapped by this huge concept of Bond girl”, the 32-year-old admits. Marlohe’s first passions were art and the piano, and as a self-confessed “paranoid” – starring in a $150 million blockbuster represented a departure from comfort zone.

The actress was helped in her role as the mysterious Severine by studying Famke Janssen’s dominatrix Xenia Onatopp in GoldenEye. “It’s so original to have a character who kills and has an orgasm at the same time, that’s what we go to movies for”.

In the end, a sense of responsibility pacified Marlohe. Cambodian by descent, she saw the global platform offered by the role as a chance to represent her country, still scarred by recent genocide and continued oppression “I see it as power to be a voice for my country, to speak for those who don’t have that chance. I will use the celebrity for human rights”.

KI-Media Note: The French magazine Paris-Match  (10 April 2012) indicated that Bérénice's father is a Sino-Cambodian doctor living in France.

him/herself to a bit more special status because
s/he has a little darker skin. They were shocked
when they saw black clad Thai soldiers killed Khmers,
they lamented why Khmer in Thailand rather kill Khmer?.
Oh God! they looked at Kuoys and they called them Khmers!!!
yet they called a fair skin khmers as Kaun Chao Chen
or Puok Kaun kat'!! What is wrong with this small group?!!
Did they eat too much treys ka-aek!!!?

I was saying that some Khmer
of darker skin did not fully
accept Khmers who has clear skin.
They rather consider Thai Kuoys
as their intimate fellow over
the Kaun Chao Chen until those
Thai soldiers prove them wrong!
Kuoys in Cambodia are Khmers and
I love them.I have problems only with dark
racist Khmers who I doubted they eat to many crow fishes!

Who care! About Sino-Cambodian, American-Cambodian, French-Cambodian, bright skin or dark skin if someone represents to the world as a Khmer descent is much better, unlike some Sino-Cambodians living in United States always pretend to be real Chinese from China but when asked, where are you from??? End of story.
Remarkably, the father of Bérénice is a Sino-Cambodian doctor living in France, but he is proud to be born as a Khmer, that’s why his daughter does the same way.
