Cambodia conducts military exercises

KAMPONG SPEU (The Cambodia Herald) - Cambodian soldiers launched BM-21 and 130-mm towed artillery in a large-scale military exercise.

Defense Minister, Tea Banh, over saw the firing of the rockets on Tuesday in the province of Kampong Speu, after the military's four month training drill.

Tea Banh said, launching of the rockets aimed to only show the ability of Cambodia’s soldiers, not to threaten other countries.

The country had test fired the multi BM 21 rockets before, with success, in March 2010, when Thai soldiers occupied Cambodian territory around Preah Vihear temple.

In the drills on 2010, the soldiers fired 215 rockets which were imported from Russia and China, each BM 21 rocket was estimated to cost between $1,200 to $3,800.

Thailand got many fighter jets and will destroy these artillery from the air. Cambodia must buy some fighter jets to counter the Thai air powers, but because Cambodia is poor it will become bankrupt if it engages in arms race with Thailand.

This is upgraded BM-21.
Able to reload itself and fire in less than 3 minutes.
