KAMPONG SPEU, 2 April 2013 (The Cambodia Herald) - Defense Minister, Tea Banh said,
the live fire of BM-21 rockets and 130-mm towed artillery in a
large-scale military exercise was a hundred percent accurate.
He said, Cambodia had used similar weapons before during the civil war but they were more primitive.
The test fires, which were computer aided, made the rockets hit their targets accurately and quickly.
Tea Banh said, the live fire of the rockets aimed to only show the ability of Cambodia’s soldiers, not to threaten other countries.
He appealed to the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces to strengthen it's resolve and continue training.
"The launches were conducted to strengthen our military's ability and to test technology that is new to us, so we can prepare for any event," he said. "We can’t take things too lightly even though we learned how to use the weapons, we have to make sure that we have the ability to fire them when we need them."
"Based on the computer reports, the live fire was a hundred percent accurate so we can say that it will meet our demands," he added. "I can’t talk about the cost, it might be little or a lot, we still have to conduct the launches.
"The live fires were conducted to make sure we are ready for the future, and it's clear that we will spend on managing military exercises as well as new equipment.

"We have to spend a lot of money on weapons because it's high quality and we want to show our military's capability for any event especially for protecting our territory," he added.
The military exercise in the province of Kampong Speu, took place Tuesday after the military's four month training drill.
During the 2010 drills, soldiers fired 215 rockets which were imported from Russia and China, each BM 21 rocket was estimated to cost between $1,200 to $3,800.
