To beat the CPP, the oppositions must unite

Re: Opposition party lists litany of demands as budget passes

It is not hard to understand why the opposition Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) has taken this position. After all, agricultural land concessions, land grabbing, poverty, corruptions etc. constitute a powerful argument for the next national general election. All that should be on the agenda of the next government-in-waiting.

Unfortunately, for now the opposition can only protest, since the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) was elected on its own platform and not the one that the opposition wanted. You know, everything can happen, even when no one expects it. In Canada, from the beginning the Mulroney government, the Tories (at that time Progressive Conservative Party) had only two (2) representatives elected at the House of Common, but after the merger with the Reform Party, and having the name of the party changed to the Conservative Party, they are now at the helm of the country as a majority government.

In Cambodia, for the time being, the opposition to the CPP is fractured, weak and full of distrusts between each other. You can always blame the party in power for mistreatments, but you should also look at yourself of what you have to offer to the nation. You need to put aside some personal ambitions and put forward the interests of the country first with a united front of democrats/nationalists then you can win the next government.

Good leaders will necessarily emerge from the movement. It should not be a big sacrifice to agree to put aside personal ambitions for the sake of winning the next election first. You will all winners as well as the whole people of Cambodia. In democracy, we should learn to be patient and know how to seize the opportunities when these are offered.

It is time now to prepare for the next general election. Look at what the Cambodian people need, what would be the direction we should steer the country to, our own country's ambitions and the trends of the region as a whole. You need a comprehensive agenda: social justice, economic development, peace and stability of the country and our place in the region and in the world included, since Cambodia is not an isolated island. Living in harmony with our neighbours is part of the equation of that peace. Then prepare an offer that our people cannot refuse and we will all happy and enjoy the democratic process.

On the defeat of the Progressive Conservative Party in Canada in 1993

After two strong mandates (1984-1993), Prime Minister Brian Mulroney left office in June 1993. The successive progressive Conservative Party leader, the Honorable Kim Cambell called a Federal election in October of that same year. The Progressive Conservatives suffered the most lopsided defeat for a governing party at the federal level, and among the worst ever suffered by a governing party in the Western world. They lost more than half their vote from 1988 and all but two of their 151 seats. Though they recovered slightly in the 1997 election, the Progressive Conservatives lost seats in 2000 and would never be a major force in Canadian politics again. In 2003, the Progressive Conservative Party disappeared entirely when it merged with the larger Canadian Alliance party (formerly the Reform Party under Preston Manning) to create the new Conservative Party of Canada. Today, the Conservatives lead a majority government again.
I am dreaming of something similar to this Canadian politics to happen here in Cambodia with all the royalists and all the nationalists who won the national election in 1993, but were unable to govern and then after defeated by the CPP 1997 coup and successive less than sub-standard elections. Can the Nationalists be united once more and win the next election as did the Tories in Canada?

Very simple solution, Sam Rainsy, Khem Sokha, Raddarid and others endorse Mu Sochua as Prime Minister Candadate and run for election. Trust me, she can win. Cambodian is ready for woman leadership. Can Sam Rainsy accept this? This is the biggest question.. Can he sacrafice?
