The Cambodian government has formed a committee comprising of 5 senior government officials to prepare a lawsuit and documents to request the the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to re-interpret the 1962 verdict which adjudicated to give the ownership of Preah Vihear temple and the surtrounding lands to Cambodia. The committee has been formed by Prime Minister Hun Sen on 3rd March, 2011.

The committee will be led by Foreign Minister Hor Namhong (pictured) with 4 imminent personalities as members that include Mr. Var Kimhong, who is chairman of Cambodian Border Commission, Mr. Aun Porn Monirath, Secretary of State of MInistry of Finance, Mr. Long Visalo, Secretary of State of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Ouch Kim An, Cambodian ambassador to France.

In a statement, Prime Minister Hun Sen said the committee was formed to assist the government to deal with the legal aspect of the ongoing Khmer-Thai conflict. The statement further added that the committee's main task was to prepare a lawsuit and documents for the re-interpretation of the 1962 ICJ verdict. "The task force has a role to prepare a lawsuit and documents to submit to the International Court of Justice to re-interpret the 15th June 1962 verdict. The task force can select and hire lawyers as well as do and carry out necessary tasks to ensure the success of the above task. The task force must continue to communicate with the ICJ through legal procedures until we obtain the court's re-intreptation of the (1962) verdict", it said.

In mid February, a government official told a local newspaper that Cambodia has hired 3 foreign lawyers from France, Australia and the UK to assist in preparing lawsuit against Thailand in the International Court of Justice.

What is the point of re-interpreting the verdict if the Thai never respect the verdict? The government should just ask the countries that uphold the ICJ to enforce the verdict.

I am sure that this will take a series of discussion with regards to the issue. it will be the utmost priority of the lawyer to take verdict on this cases. And there must have enough information with regards to these circumstances.
