Court files charge against wife of Cambodia’s tycoon

One of the victims who fled to file complaint with police in Battambong province after being tortured by Ly Pov

 

PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Phnom Penh Municipal Court filed charges against Ly Pov, wife of tycoon Vengly Techla, for grossly mistreating two of their adopted daughters.

The court’s decision was made earlier this week, and the suspect, who remains out on bail, was sent before the judge for further questioning.

Song Kunthea and Si Chean nicknamed Phally, both 17,  weren't able to stand the violence and fled from the couples home in the district of Toul Kok in Phnom Penh on February 23rd, ending up in Battambang Province where they made their police report.

Kunthea said, her aunt sent her to live with Ly Pov at the age of seven after her mother had died and her father remarried.

She was told to feel like an  adopted daughter, but Ly Pov brutalized her until she couldn't take it anymore and fled at the age of 17.

Phally, a resident of Takeo province, agreed to the same statement from Kunthea.

Recently, Four civil organizations, for anti-violence against women, had joined to release a statement for the "quick action and justice", regarding the cruel and inhumane actions of Ly Pov, and had shown their concerns over the safety of victims and their families.

On April 1st, Vengly Techla appeared in court, and denied any involvement with the violence against the victims, and said it was his wife who committed the violent acts.
