Authorities questioned a policeman yesterday in connection with Monday’s brutal murder of a young mother outside a Phnom Penh hospital clinic.

Thoang Makara, aged 23, was gunned down on Monday morning while taking her newborn baby to receive vaccinations at a health centre in the capital’s Dangkor district. The gunman – who authorities said had waited nearly an hour for her to leave – fired at her three times at close range, killing her instantly.

Police initially suspected that the crime might be connected with a love triangle involving Thoang Makara’s husband, who is now living in New Zealand with his first wife. His first wife’s younger brother, a policeman currently living in Cambodia, was brought in for questioning yesterday by authorities, said a district policeman who asked not to be identified.

Phnom Penh deputy police chief Pul Phithey declined to give specifics about the interrogation. “We are just aiming to gather information related to the case,” he said.

Police chief for Dangkor communed Lut Khim said that his force was working hard to solve the case. “I hope the murderers will be found,” he said.

Dangkor district police chief Born Sam Arth declined to comment on the case because it was an ongoing investigation. The body of the young mother was cremated on Monday evening at Russey Sanh pagoda.

The story of this unfortunate young mom coldly executed in broad daylight by a killer by simple jealousy of the woman whose husband is the father of the baby and the lover of this young victim inspires boths the deep sadness ,indignation and anger.

The case of this young mother killed in these cases of love and jealousy is not unfortunately a rare and isolated cases in Cambodia. If it is not bullets that kill, it is acid attacks that disfigure and make infirm for life.

It would be good as a filmmaker or a producer of television films
put this story fictionalized version on television or movies to hit the public consciousness and do a bit of moral in addition to the work of the courts.

To say this must stop. Those cases of love and jealousy, do not justify in our society today a murder or assassination or such cruel suffering. And the married man who is often responsible for such cases, especially when he is older than the woman he wanted to take as a lover, must have a responsible attitude and to consider the consequences of his actions.

It is a social emergency and moral education to achieve.

It is a cruel act to kill someone for just marrying this man. Maybe the victim didn't even know that he is married. This is often the case because the men from overseas, who has the power of money, often lied about their marital status just so they could marry with some young beautiful women in Cambodia.

The tragic thing about this young women is that she was executed in broad daylight for innocently marrying this guy. The first wife, if she was the mastermind of the young woman's killing, has no heart and is a very cruel animal. She lives in a civilized country, where the rule of law reigns supreme, should not have acted so cruel and heartless to another human being like this. I hope the NZ laws will deal with her harshly, if she is found guilty of masterminding this murder.
