Cambodian Police and officials from the Department of Fishery have detained two Vietnamese fishing boats (pictured) and 8 fishermen on Monday 20th after they were seen fishing on Cambodian waters off the coast of Kampot and Kep, about 1500 metres north of Tro-Ngorl Island.

The Vietnamese boats and crews were detained at 10:15 p.m after Maj. Touch Poleak, commander of Kampot-Kep Police, led a group of police and fishery officials saw them fishing in Cambodian waters.

Mr. Sor Sorin, chief of Kampot Fishery Department, said the boats and the crews have been detained at Kampot Fishery Department and they will be dealt with by Cambodian laws.

In the third quarter of 2010, Cambodian authority has made four arrests and detentions of illegal Vietnamese fishing boats and crews. First was on 19th October when one Vietnamese fishing boat and 4 crews were detained. The second time was on 12th November when one boat and 3 crews were detained, the third was on 11th December when one boat and three crews were detained. And the last one was on Monday 20th December when 2 boats and 8 crews were detained and arrested.

why don't we fry them just like they would do to our fishermen.

Our people in general need to get more meaner than we used to, show a different perception of our people. Who know, things maybe different for the better for us.

Maybe, we are starting to get respects from our neighbors.

I think the Viet fishermen dare to fish in Cambodian waters because the local officials don't care or received bribery from them. They fished in Cambodian waters illegally, so they must be prosecuted.
