Prime Minister has accused Prince Ranariddh, once his political bedfellow and other time his political nemesis, of wanting to topple Nhiek Bunchhay from his position as Secretary General of the Funcinpec Party, nearly a week after the prince announced his return to politics.

In a public speech during the inauguration of the University of Battambang, Mr. Hun Sen accused the prince of wanting to topple his protege Mr. Nhiek Bunchhay from his position after the prince called on all members of the Funcinpec Party to defect to his yet-to-be renamed Norodom Ranariddh Party at a public speech in Kampong Cham on Saturday. Prince Ranariddh said he will accept all Funcinpec members, except Nhiek Bunchhay and Keo Put Rasmy, his brother-in-law who is the current president of the Funcinpec Party.

Gen. Nhiek Bunchay, once Prince Ranariddh's most trusted lieutenant and now his biggest political nemesis, had engineered Prince Ranariddh's ouster as president of the Funcinpec Party on 18th October 2006.

Mr. Hun Sen has warned Prince Ranariddh that he will be sacked from his position as president of the supreme advisory council to King Sihamoni, a position he held since his retirement from politics after the 2008 election. Mr. Hun Sen said he was the one who requested the king to appoint Prince Ranariddh to the position, therefore he can also request to the king to terminate his role from that position.
