The Phnom Penh authority has rejected a request by Mr. Rong Chhun (pictured), chairman of the Confederation of Cambodian Union, to hold a rally to present a petition to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon during his visit to the kingdom from 26-28 October.

On 22nd, Mr. Rong Chhun wrote to the municipal authority to ask for a permission to hold a rally in front of the old parliament house at 8 a.m on 26th October. The rally then will proceed to Inter-Continental Hotel to present the petition to Mr. Ban Ki-moon. But his request was rejected.

Mr. Rong Chhun said his petition will detail about the violations of Cambodia's territorial integrity by Thailand and Vietnam and about the justice system in Cambodia.

The Khmer Krom community in Cambodia had sought a meeting with Mr. Ban Ki-moon and also planned to present a petition to the UN chief regarding human rights abuses perpetuated against them by the Vietnamese authority.
