A Malaysian company, Padi Bernas Nasional Berhad (Bernas) , which was backed by the Malaysian government, has invested $20 million to build a rice mill in Cambodia called Chamray on a 10 hectares of land in Suong town in Kampong Cham province.

Mr. Chhay Ching Heang, chairman of Chamray company who was granted a licence to export rice to Malaysia, said on Sunday that his company had a joint venture with the Malaysian company and had an exclusive right to export Cambodian rice to Malaysia.

He said the joint venture and the Malaysian investment came after the visit of the Malaysian prime minister, Mr. Najib Abdul Razak, to Cambodia on 10th May. He added that his company will export about 500,000 tons of rice per year to Malaysia.
