Mr. Kuoy Bunroeun (pictured), the Sam Rainsy Party MP for Takeo has on Sunday been robbed of money and jewelry worth $10,000 by two armed men at a car repair shop in Phnom Penh's Chamka Morn district.

Mr. Kuon Bunroeun said that at 4:20 p.m on Sunday, two armed men walked into a car repair shop where he was repairing his car and pointed a gun at him, saying that they were hired by someone to kill him. Fearing for his life, he implored with them not to kill him and he took off everything from his body and surrendering his valet containing $500 in cash, an ATM card, a driver's licence and a parliamentary immunity ID card. He also handed them a necklace of 5 damloeung of gold (worth about $5,500), a diamond ring and a mobile phone. Mr. Kuoy Bunroeun said the robbers were around 30 years old, fair in complexion and look healthy which indicate that they are not the poor robbers.

Ouch Sokhon, Police Inspector for Chamka Morn district, said he has not received any complaint from Mr. Kuoy Bunroeun yet and appealed for him to report the robbery to the police as soon as possible so it will make it easy for the police to investigate the case. He added that police had some clues about the robbers who were known to the police. He said police had photos of possible suspects to show to Mr. Kuoy Bunroeun for identification, but so far he has refused to cooperate with the police, said the police inspector.

However, according to Kampuchea Thmey, Mr. Kuoy Bunroeun had lodged a complaint with the Interior Ministry the next day by writing a letter to Interior Minister Sar Kheng asking him to help find the culprits.

We wonder who are these attempted hit-men, are they real Khmer or others?. Maybe the victim is really Khmer and really care about our people and country and his perception maybe anti-illegal immigrant or maybe the victim's adversary really unhappy with him because he is a tough and serious politician or maybe there was personal issue, or what ever the speculation that we can think of, it is still not acceptable for these thugs to commit such a despicable acts. We, Cambodian must stop sabotage each other, if we have a disagreement, we sit down together and talk in a civilize way, we had these evil habits within us for too long, that brought us and our country to a crippling and a devastation time and time again, and we must stop and rehabilitate among ourselves, and starting to understand one-another and trusting each other. The enemy really like to see us killing and destroying each others, and they encourage and more often an instigator to break us apart. We must not allow them to do that anymore, we must be smarter.
