The Cambodian Treasury has sent an ultimatum to Mu Sochua (pictured) on 17th June demanding that she pay compensation to Prime Minister Hun Sen and fines to the court in 15 days or will be dealt by the laws, reports Radio Free Asia.

On 2nd June, the Supreme Court upheld a lower court verdict which found her guilty of defaming Prime Minister Hun Sen. Mrs. Mu Sochua sued Mr. Hun Sen for defamation in 2009 for calling her a "cheung klang" (strong leg), a demeaning term for women that sometimes means "a hustler", but the court dismissed her lawsuit and found her guilty when Mr. Hun Sen counter-sued.

The Treasury's letter demanded she pay the 8.5 million riels (2,200) fines immediately or will be dealt with under criminal laws. The letter did not specify what sentence Mu Sochua will face, but according to Mr. Hun Sen's lawyer's previous statements, Mu Sochua could face up to one year in jail or have her properties confiscated.

Mr. Yim Sovan, spokesman for the Sam Rainsy Party, refused to comment when approached. Mrs. Mu Sochu, however, said immediately after the verdict on 2nd June that she rather go to jail than pay for the fines as she has always maintained her innocence and that she was the one who was defamed by Mr. Hun Sen. "I reiterate again that I will not pay the fines. My conscience will not allow me to pay even one cent", she said.

Mu Sochua cannot be reached for comment as she has left for the United states on the night of 17th June to meet with U.S officials and bring a petition bearing 2,000 signatures to President Obama regarding her case.

Please pay the fine, otherwise, they will put you in jail. I think you don't want to be in jail. Next time, don't sue Hun Sen because no one can defeat him. Hun Sen is god in Cambodia. just pay the fine and you will be okay.
