A group of Cambodian and Thai troops nearly clash while conducting a joint patrol along the border areas at Chak Chreng, about 7 kilometres from Preah Vihear temple, on Friday 13th, reports Kampuchea Thmey newspaper.

According to Mr. Chea Chon, Cambodian battalion commander based at Phnom Trop, said the incident was caused by troop reinforcements by the Thai side to the areas. He said, under the agreement, both sides can only deploy 15 troops for a joint patrol a long the borders. But on Friday the 13th, the 15 Cambodian troops spotted 4 Thai military trucks brought about 80 Thai soldiers to the areas. The Cambodian soldiers immediately challenged them by telling them that they have violated the agreement. The Thai side said it brought reinforcements to the areas because it saw the Cambodian side is digging more trenches in the area.s The Cambodian side responded by saying that Cambodian soldiers are digging trenches inside Cambodian territories which are allowed under the agreement. The angry verbal exchanges ensued and continued that nearly cuminated into an armed clash.

The tensions had only eased after commanders from both sides met for lucnh for two hours and the Thai side agreed to withdraw the new troops. Mr. Chea Chon said, during the joint lunch, the Cambodian side showed a video of Mr. Thaksin's visit to Cambodia to Thai soldiers. He said all the 10 Thai soldiers who watched the video had expressed sympathy for Mr. Thaksin's plight.

According to Mr. Chea Chon, a Thai commander by the name of Virayudh said Mr. Thaksin still have a great influence on many Thai soldiers and many Thai soldiers still support him. "In Thailand, the overwhelming majority of Thai soldiers love Mr. Thaksin. I haven't seen Mr. Thaksin's face for a long time. Now I've seen him in this viedo, he is a person who really deserves to be a leader of Thailand in the future", Mr. Chea Chon quoted Mr. Virayudh as saying.
