The Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) and their supporters are currently marching along the streets of Phnom Penh to demand a re-election to solve Cambodia's political dispute.
PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- The Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) and their supporters are currently marching along the streets of Phnom Penh to demand a re-election to solve Cambodia's political dispute.
The march which began Monday evening at 5 p.m., is led by opposition leaders Sam Rainsy and Kem Sohka, according to a CNRP statement.
Before the march took place, Sam Rainsy had urged all young adults to join him and his party in the protest.
“I appeal to all young adults to join the hour-long procession on motorcycle, which will depart from Phnom Penh’s Democracy Square this afternoon at 5 o'clock,” Sam Rainsy posted in his Facebook page.
Phnom Penh residents are concerned that the CNRP's march will negatively affect their travels and businesses.
They are told to avoid traveling on the streets where protesters will be marching along.
A CNRP senior official said that the CNRP’s march will pass through street 108, turn into street 13 near Psar Chas market, and then to street 154, ending on street 53 north of Psar Thmey market to Freedom Park.
"Residents should avoid traveling on these streets if they don't want to meet a crowd," Ho Van, CNRP’s Vice Chairman on the Disciplinary Committee, said.
A Phnom Penh official said that authorities will be following closely to see how the march will evolve.
The authorities considered the opposition's march illegal because they weren't informed of the march.
“Phnom Penh authorities haven't taken action yet concerning the opposition party's protest,” Phnom Penh City Hall spokesman, Long Dimanche told reporters.
