PHNOM PENH, 12 December 2013: Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation says visa regulations between Cambodia and Japan have been eased.
Effective Wednesday, the ministry said Japanese and Cambodian passport holders will be eligible for long-term and multiple-entry visas for a period from one to three years.
Diplomatic passport holders will also be granted an automatic 30-day visa allowance in Cambodia and Japan. Representatives from both countries will announce the visa changes at the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit on Friday in Tokyo.
The ministry spokesperson, Koy Kuong, told local media that the application criteria for the long-term and multiple-entry visas will be decided independently.

“The scheme will promote trade exchange between the two countries … to increase investment from Cambodia to Japan, and Japan to Cambodia and to facilitate  entry into both countries.”
Cambodian Association for Travel Agents president, Ang Kim Eang, said: “The new visa rules are a vital factor to ramp up tourism between the two nations.”
The president also called on both goverments to cut visa-application red tape and for airlines to introduce scheduled flights between the two countries.
“There are only charter flights…we need scheduled flights. With this new agreement, airline operators should speed up the process.”
During January to October this year, Japanese tourist arrivals rose 15.8% to 165,359, up from 142,812 during the same period last year.
