Cambodia's Foreign Minister Hor Namhong and his Thai counterpart Surapong Tovichakchaikul are speaking in a news conference held in Thailand's Aranh Prathet district, Sakeo province following a meeting in the Cambodian city of Poipet, Banteay Meanchey province.
POIPET, Banteay Meanchey (The Cambodia Herald) -- Both the Cambodian and Thai governments are committed to following the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) verdict regarding the territorial dispute case over the area surrounding the Preah Vihear temple.
Both governments have agreed to cooperate with each other to maintain peace and security along the border whatever the verdict the ICJ gives on November 11th.
The commitment to maintaining peace and order by Cambodiam Foreign Minister Hor Namhong and Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul was further emphasized in a news conference held in Thailand's Aranh Prathet district, Sakeo province following a meeting in the Cambodian city of Poipet, Banteay Meanchey province.
"The two sides agreed to keep peace and cooperation along the border in both levels of the military and the government whatever the ICJ verdict on Preah Vihear will be," Surapong Tovichakchaikul said in the news conference.
"The position of the Thai government is to fully implement a peaceful co-existence with its neighbors, improve relations and cooperation, and continue to use existing mechanisms," he said.
Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong also expressed a similar attitude regarding the ICJ verdict.
"I am very happy that the two sides agreed to implement the ICJ interpretation of the 1962 judgment to clarify the area around Preah Vihear Temple which will be announced on November 11th," Hor Namhong said.
"Cambodia forced itself to ask the ICJ to interpret the 1962 verdict to avoid the spread of border conflicts caused by a former Thai Prime Minister [Abhisit Vejjajiva]," he said, adding that Cambodia chose peaceful means for peaceful co-existence of both country's citizens.
