Opposition supporters donate toward protest: CNRP official

Give our kids a better deal
PHNOM PENH, 23 September 2013 (The Cambodia Herald) -- The opposition Cambodian National Rescue Party (CNRP) said that they had received 68 million riel, $27,500 and 2,200 baht, 50,000 dozen bottles of drinking water and food for their recent mass protest this past weekend from contributions given to them by their supporters from September 1-7.

"Funds, drinking water, food and other items were accepted from our supporters at the CNRP’s office and at Democratic Park during the mass protest on Sunday," Ky Vandara, CNRP’s finance general director, said in an announcement dated Monday.

The statement said that they will hold a bigger non-violent mass protest from September 15-17.

The goal of the new protest is to demand the establishment of an independent poll inquiry committee to probe into the alleged election irregularities.

The CNRP also appealed to their supporters to continue their contributions to the protest.

The National Election Committee (NEC) on Sunday announced the official election results, handing the victory to the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) winning 68 seats, while the opposition had only won 55 seats.

The opposition immediately rejected the official election results after the NEC’s announcement on the state-owned television station (TVK).
