I have suspected all along that Cambodia's complaint to the UN Security Council about the "Thai invasion" would fail and is a waste of time. My suspicion have proved correct after the UNSC rejected Cambodia's request of a troop deployment as a buffer zone between Cambodian and Thai troops and referred the Cambodian-Thai conflict to the Association of South East Asian Nations (Asean), a spineless and toothless organisation.
The Thais have won a diplomatic victory by achieving its wish of a bilateral or regional approach to the conflict and successfully lobbying the UNSC from not taking on the case further. This would leave Cambodia at a severe disadvantage as after 2 and a half years of bilateral talks have produced nothing, but have caused for more tensions and armed clashes. The UNSC should be taking into account the damages to Preah Vihear temple, the Thai troops' use of cluster bombs and alleged use of poison gas/chemical weapons into considerations when making a decision to wash its hand off the conflict.
The meeting of the 10 members of Asean scheduled for 22nd February will result in disappointment for Cambodia, for the 10 members will recommend the two parties, Cambodia and Thailand, return to the bilateral negotiating table.
I can confidently predict that there will be more armed clashes as Cambodia would not budge on giving the 4.6 sq. km of land demanded by Thailand and Thailand will continually attempt to get it by force as has been happened that resulted in at least 4 deadly armed clashes so far.
It is not clear what evidences Cambodia had shown the UNSC members or what angle of argument or cases it had presented to the UNSC meeting. The request for a "UN buffer zone" is not a strong case as UN peace-keeping force is overstretched. The claim for "war" with Thailand from 4-7 February is not very convincing because it only happened sporadically for 4 days and at the time of the UNSC meeting, the fighting had stopped for 7 days already.
Cambodia, in my opinion, should present a case of the"Thai invasion" of Cambodian territory to the UNSC by presenting maps showing that the fighting had occurred inside Cambodia and that Thai troops had encroached 1.2 to 1.6 km inside Cambodian territory.
From a Cambodian perspective, the Preah Vihear case is a lost cause for Cambodia. I can predict that the 4.6 sq. km will have to be ceded to Thailand or at least shared with Thailand in exchange for peace in the area.
Cambodia must bring the case to the International Court of Justice to request it to re-interpret the 1962 verdict. If the case is successful, then Thailand is under the obligation to withdraw its troops from the area like in 1962. But for now, the Thais can have reasons to celebrate on the streets of Bangkok.

I'm not sure about that. If his power is shaky, he will give everything as long as he can save his power. This has been proven before.
But, I am hopeful that Cambodia will continue to fight on the international stage rather than on the battlefields where Cambodia has a disadvantage.

I am really shocked when seeing the UN take his ignorance towards the war between Cambodia and Thailand. I just doubt why the UN is so unfair on this issue. Cambodia has official documents to proof but what they treat Cambodia is really unacceptable. Does those 15 countries get any benefit from Thailand?
I hope the UN can take an action against Thailand, but in fact, it is just a waste of time and may make Thailand threaten us more and more. I am really sad that the world today is full of unfair thing. I tended to step back to support the democracy. Now I see that who give me life, I will support them, no matter communism or democracy. But, I feel communism helps us better than those democratic countries. Even we were in Pol Pot regime, democratic countries never took a look on our suffering. No matter, even though Vietnam take our piece of land, but without Vietnam, who gonna help us? who gonna help my mother? They will be died all. If Vietnam was really bad, they just let us died all and took our land easily. Did democratic countries help us?
Before I believe that justice will be given to the honest people like Cambodians. But, now it is just a hopeless.
I don't know what happens next in the future, but one thing that predict, the war will be not easily ended. Thailand will close the door and attack us as she wish.
I dare to loss land to China even the whole Cambodia, but I will not allow Thailand or Vietnam to get any a millimeter of Cambodian lands. I am ready to go to war. They push us too far to the corner. So, we should not believe in them anymore. We fight for what we must do for our race and nation.
Please go to armies. We fight for the justice and the stability of the world. Don't let the Thai invasion in Cambodia be the good example for other countries to invade other countries.
It is waste of time to resume any talk as long as Thailand still uses her own map to claim the area. Next time no need to ask UN troops to come to the area BUT just ask if UNSC can tell Thailand not her own map but the French-Siam 1907 may that has been place at the UN to resolve conflict.
Otherwise, just keep fighting whenever they enter the area.
The role of UN is nothing. Thailand use cluster bomb, destroy the Preah Vihear temple, and invade Cambodia. But, they do as if they don't know anything about situation on the ground.
That's why about 2.5 people died silently in Pol Pot regime.
I hope at least the UN send any representative to evaluate Preah Vihear's damage, but nothing at all.

UN aware that Cambodia has borders problems not just in the West but Eastern side as well. By deferring to ASEAN to mediate this matter,
Thailand can point out to all ASEAN members that the Eastern side should discuss as well. Right now Thai is jealous of the fact that: If the Vietnam can take a lot of land from Cambodia why Thailand can not do the same.
UN wants ASEAN expose all the facts about Cambodia problems and solve them regionally first. Thailand will become Khmer savior if she dare to point out that,hey look what's going on on the East side. May be that was the intention Thai has all along because Phnom Penh government not dare to say anything regarding to Eastern border. Folks, let's not overreact or assume the worst. Cambodia or any part of Cambodia territory will not be taken over by Thailand. Remember, Thailand is a theif and play itself well among the regional cowards. Everyone know and see the truth, even UN or ASEAN, but they prefered to turn their back against Cambodia because Cambodia offers very little incentive for them in return. It has to do with their own national interest. One thing for sure, Cambodia has every fucking damn rights to defend hereself from foreign invader, in this case, Thailand. However, if the opportunity is given to retake what was stolen, why not also do that. We should expect Thailand to not follow rules of war set forth by Geneva convention. Booby traps, landmines, whatever is necessary to kill the enemy. Demoralize the motherfuckers. Give them one hell of post-truamatic war syndrom to remember for the rest of their living lives. Make them rethink every time they want to steal our land.
As much we want peace, war is necessary to create peace, visa versa. Obviously, Cambodia being peaceful only to lead war, why not give war a chance. Yea..lives will be lost but let god decide who lives and who dies, who wins and who loses, don't let Thailand decide.

I think it is ok now since ASEAN intervene in this issue. If we see from outside, it's hard for the UN to intervene in this issue since there is also regional organization like ASEAN. I think giving a chance for ASEAN to solve the conflict is a good idea, not too bad. We could accept it. If we don't make it move forward to the international issue, Thailand will invade us as she wish. Now, if there is something wrong, we will complaint to ASEAN or the UN again and again. It doesn't matter. Or, we can ask the International Court to reexplain the ICJ rule again. It's ok. It is acceptable. No matter what, we move forward.....:)
Im thai, if Preah Vihear and a few square miles can cause this much troubles among villagers along the borders who used to be like brothers and sisters, then I think you khmer people can f*cking have it. I know for one thing though, we didn't start the fight. Don't listen to your government control medias too much, think this way, why would Thai soldier started this fight to bring all the attentions to this matter when what we want most is a bilateral agreement not UNHC interference. Both countries claim victory after UN meeting. But I think, it is a draw. The outcome is favorable for Thailand indeed, but not mean an outright win. There is Asean to play a role that Thailand has always refused, but now is forced to accept. And Thailand will try to push Asean out again and put the issue unresolved or get some concession from Cambodia. If Thailand can do it, yes we can say Thailand succeeds.
The true is Thai and American goverment want Hun Sen off from Cambodia like Tunisa and Egypt. This war is to push Hun Sen regime out of power.

Cambodia needs to go to the ICJ and let the court interprets the rulings again. Thailand is one of the founder of ASEAN. This group will be on Thailand side. Cambodia does not have any friend in this group. Thailand knows it. Thailand refuses to go to international because it knows that France will come out to support Cambodia due to the map used in the ruling. The only think that Cambodia can do now is to play cool like Thai FM yesterday during his interview. Cambodia cannot and must not concede the 4.6 sq. km to Thailand and cannot allow joint management of Preah Vihear. This is what Thai govt wants - joint management.
Cambodia cannot ask Vietnam to help either. The only way Vietnam will help if it gets something in return and that is more of Cambodia's Lands.
If Cambodia allows for Joint Management of Preah Vihear, it will be Thailand who will play a major role. Thai will do whatever it takes to be a major player in the management of Preah Vihear.
I also agree with Khmerization's comment about going to the UN was a waste of time. UN is US, US is Thailand. Cambodia has nothing that will benefit the US.

You and your government can not fool world opinion. They are not dumb, or not know what the motive of these clashes.
The world do not like dictatorial regime. Starting from you, you should learn the notion of freedom,liberty,justice and respect other opinion. you can disagree with other but you can not shut people up.
You and your government must behave , the world are not blind. they knew how Cambodian life condition is,they care about Cambodia situation. But they do not like you and your government and you should from that.
