UNITED NATIONS, February 14 -- Cambodia's request that the UN Security Council meet and send peacekeepers or at least observers to its border conflict with Thailand was at most half successful on Monday. A meeting was held, but the resulting Council press statement did not sent observers.
Rather, the UN Security Council deferred almost entirely to the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), which is convening a meeting of the region's foreign ministers in Jakarta on February 22.
Inner City Press asked ASEAN chair Marty Natalegawa if his ability to mediate the conflict was hurt by the lack within ASEAN of procedures to expel or apply sanctions to a member. While ASEAN does not have those powers, Natalegawa replied ASEAN “member states... must behave in a certain manner.”
Since Cambodia's presentation to the Council said “Thailand used sophisticated weapons including cluster bombs,” Inner City Press asked Natalegawa what would happen within ASEAN to these charges. Ask the two foreign ministers, Natalegawa replied.
When Inner City Press asked Thai minister Kasit Piromya about Cambodia's charge, Kasit said “we deny all of that... we did not shoot first.”
Kasit said that Thailand gives money to Cambodia, and referred to as Mr. “Prescoe” UN Under Secretary General Lynn Pascoe, who skipped the stakeout that UN spokesman Martin Nesirky said would be held.

The last speaker was Cambodia's deputy prime minister Hor Namhong. Inner City Press asked if he and Cambodia were disappointed that the UN Security Council did not grant the request for peacekeepers.
“We regret the Security Council did not send observers on the ground,” he said, before adding that Cambodia now counts on Natalegawa to keep the peace.
Inner City Press asked what actions Cambodia would ask ASEAN to take with respect with Thailand. The response was deferred until the February 22 ASEAN minister's meeting in Jakarta. Watch this site.

Cambodian have been brush aside by the UN. UN don't want to hear Cambodia bitching and complaining, UN want to see Cambodia stand toe-to-toe with thailand in the WAR.
That was exactly what the UN doing right now. UN is not a place Cambodia should coming to complaining about from today forward.

UN aware that Cambodia has borders problems not just in the West but Eastern side as well. By deferring to ASEAN to mediate this matter,
Thailand can point out to all ASEAN members that the Eastern side should discuss as well. Right now Thai is jealous of the fact that: If the Vietnam can take a lot of land from Cambodia why Thailand can not do the same.
UN wants ASEAN expose all the facts about Cambodia problems and solve them regionally first. Thailand will become Khmer savior if she dare to point out that,hey look what's going on on the East side. May be that was the intention Thai has all along because Phnom Penh government not dare to say anything regarding to Eastern border. Thailand once said after the dust settle everyone will know who the good guy, who the bad guy and who is the stooge in the middle.I do no think Thailand wants 4.6km2. Thailand has more than enough land for many thais generations to come.
Why do Kos Trol, sea and lands proximately over 10 000 km2 have been lost to Vietnam by who treaty? Why don't Cambodia goverment transparency explain to cambodia army at front line and the whole nation about this? Why don't they include this into education system? Why?
Cambodian army are fighting at front line for 4.6 km2 and what's about over 10 000km2 of cambodia to Vietnam. Nobody dare to talk about it! Why? Cambodian army you are decide the fade of your nation, Cambodian army as well as cambodian people must rethink about this again and again. Is it fair?

Cambodian army at front line suffer under rain, wind, bullets, bombs,lack of foods, lack of nutrition, their families have no health care help, no securities after they die but a very small group eat well, sleep well, sleep in first class hotel with air conditioning with young girls message, have super health care from oversea medical treatment, they are billionairs, millionairs who sell out the country to be rich and make cambodian people suffer everyday as cambodian people know already.
Who signed the treaty 1979-1985 that result lost over 10 000 km2 of Cambodia??? Why don't they transparency inform all Cambodian and cambodian army at front line about these issues? Why don't include Kos Trol ( Kos Trol size is bigger than the whole Phom Phen with planty of natural resources ) in education program?
Cambodia move too far. Cambodia should address the issue for the region so that Thailand will still be afraid of Cambodia to raise it to the UN. But now, Thailand is not afraid of invading Cambodia anymore. As you can see, even Thailand destroy the world heritage site and use cluster bomb, the UN still look at this issue as a tiny and unimportant issue.
I hope the world will have world war III again in the future.

Hor Namhong does not have the credential as the FM for Cambodia. He needs to be replaced ASAP.

Namhong said on TV at the UN,you were right and I strongly believe that he need to step down from his post as FM due to lack of his credential for this job.If he continue as Cambodia FM, is a said day for us as Cambodian people.
