Thai soldiers killed 11 Cambodians loggers, wounded 8 and arrested 30

By Khmerization
Source: CEN

There are reports that 11 Cambodian loggers were killed, 8 wounded and 30 were arrested by Thai troops after they allegedly crossed to log inside Thai territory in Tropeang Prasat district in Oddar Meanchey province on Friday morning, the 8th July.

The sources said that Thai soldiers had indiscriminately shot into a crowd of 100 Cambodian loggers, killing 11, wounded 8 and arrested 30 others. Initial reports said 5 people were killed, 8 wounded but as of today, 11th July, there are reports that the number of loggers killed had increased to 11.

Mr. Toch Ra, Cambodian chief of border relations in Oddar Meanchey province, said he doesn't know the exact number of loggers killed, but said it is likely to be more than 5 people. He said the bodies have not yet been retrieved as Thai soldiers had denied that they had killed or arrested any Cambodian loggers. However, some survivors have escaped to Cambodia and the wounded are being treated in a Cambodian hospital and have provided testimonies to the Cambodian authority about the Thai shooting and killings.

This is the behavior of the Thai's soldiers. It hasn't change the way Thai's soldiers treated Cambodian citizens. I remembered back in Kao I Dang refugee camp; Thai's soldiers beated Khmer refugees for forgetting to wear ID badge. If the Thai's national anthem played; you must remain silent otherwise you will get beaten by the Thai's soliers. If the refugees snuck out the campt to buy merchandises "រត់ពន្ឋ", eventhough they paid the Thai's soldiers. They would get robbed and killed along the way. They shot and kill you if you snuck out of the camp. Durng New Year, Thai's soldiers got drunk came into the refugee camp and fondling Khmer women, Khmer men got upset and retialiated. The Thai's soldiers brought the entire units and locked down the refugee camp. If you played "ខ្លាឃ្លោក" and they caught you; they made them eat the ខ្លាឃ្លោក and drink soy saurce. They did the same thing to Vietnam refugees. Thai's soldiers rapped their women and killed them. Thai's soldier pick up the Khmer refugees loaded them into the trucks and dumped them at the Phnom Dong Reak canyon. This is how Thai's soldiers treated us.

Khmer troops should do the same when the opportunity is giving, kill those motherfucking Thai animals on sight. They don't deserve to walk on this planet. Kill all the Thai dogs and let god sort them out. Fuck Thailand.

I don't felt any sympathy or sorry for these illegally loggers people a bit..They've caused their government so much trouble, they allow Thailand to look down on their government too...I don't know why people still so stubborn crossing illegally and logging someone else trees? There's jobs in our country right now, but people wanna get rich FAST? These people knew so damn well that how dangerous it Is...I don't blame Thai shoot and kill them! Don't tell me..No jobs in our country right now? Bullshit! People are too greedy today!!

By crossing into another country illegally and chop down their tree, our government don't support or tolerate this kind of act...Lots of industry in cambodia right now, but some people are too greedy and wanna take short cut to get rich fast? It's not gonna work that way...?

Khmers people've already been warns from our authority not to cross into Thailand and cut down their tree. Khmer people have chop down their own tree...and still not enough? I wish authority punish people also...There's still a lot of thing you can do at home today...Why people risking their life like that? We did not have anything to eat during Pol Pot's time, but we all still alive today?

Look like the same motherfucker writing the same old comments above. There is a humane way to deal with so-called Khmer illegal loggers. They were unarmed civillians walking into a wrong place at the wrong time, therefore; they don't deserve to be shot. The fucking Siem soldiers just want to kill Khmer regardless if they're military or civillians. When Thais accidentally walked into Cambodian territory, Cambodia just arrested them and sent them back to Thailand. Cambodian is being too friendly with those motherfuckers Siem. When Cambodian accidently walked into Thailand, they're shot dead on purpose. I don't think any motherfucker with the right mind think this is right to do. Only a fucking Siem dogs think this is OK. Fuck you, you Khmer/Thai sympathizing motherfuckers. You're a fucking traitors. You should take you ass to join the Siem troops. Matter of facts, go to same spot where those Khmer loggers killed and beg the Siem soldiers to accept you in. You fucking traitorious pathetic fucks.

correction=He can bring money in here and there...Better than risk your life at Thai's soldier target shooting!!

I understand that what they did was wrong; there is court of law. You can arrest them and lock them up. If they found guilty then put them in jail. Why would take their life? There is no excuse for taking their life. Thai's soldiers alway behave like this when Khmer has no place to go in the refugee camp. If you those comment never been in refugee camp, they won't know how Thai's soldiers behave toward Khmer. A month ago, 15 years old boy was beaten by Thai's police until his ball broke and bleed. What kind of threat does he has? nothing. Those of you law bidding citizens that has no sympathy for those illegal logger; I ask you to reexamine your thoughts. If a person done wrong, Thai's soldiers should have just arrested them and send them to court? They have no right to take another human life. This is pure hatred acts.

Thai soldier just want to shoot khmer people when they got their chance...Yes! So, khmer people must not enter their country illegally, be smart!

Those khmer stubborn and hard head people deserved to be shot death! They knew what their consequent are...

What justification you have to take another human life? Illegal border crossing? Tourists be ware if you decided to go to Thailand. Dont go there. They will shoot you and ask question later. This is the type of ruling in Thailand. I urge tourists to come to Cambodia and spend money in Cambodia. Cambodia is friendly to tourist, we dont treated you as "Farang", we treat you like family. Dont go to Thailand, run for your life because it is a bunch of murderers in Thailand. They dont care about human life. If you cross border or some how found yourself at the wrong place at the wrong time; you could be the next spy or your parents will get you in the body bag. Is this the country you want to spend your vacation? You see how they shoot many arm arm Cambodian.

Anonymous said...

As everyone knew there is no rule of law in Thailand, so please Khmer people do not illegally cross into Thailand or you will shot to dead like animal, on the other way, Khmer should do the same if any Thai cross into Khmer territory illigally, and if one or two of them receive the hell fate like they did to Khmer people you will know how they feel. you know by history since 13th century untillnow how bad Khmer had suffered, they killed Khmer but did nothing to prevent or revenge. Sometime if Khmer have never given them a lesson. don't forget they have gun and so do we.Khmer should act now to get our pride.

Thai Military’s Mistreatments of Khmer Civilians - 1/2

-------------------

Folk, I realise this is an emotive issue, but I think it would be wrong to condemn the victims (especially, those already dead who can't speak for themselves) for whatever they had done on foreign soil, and by implication, justifying the barbaric acts of the Thai military.

We don't always know all the factors or reasons that led these civilians to engage in activities of this nature. They could even have strayed there by accident due to lack of proper border markings along this part of the border. Maybe they were digging for crickets, wild potatoes or mushroom picking even, who knows?

None of these possibilities, however, are sufficient grounds for armed troops to open fire indiscriminately at a crowd of unarmed civilians, causing instant fatalities and serious physical injuries to these people. Whether you are Khmer or Thai, try imagine yourself in those victims' place when without warning or dialogue you found yourself a helpless target of several machine guns firing at you at the same time.

People of any nation with just a slight interest in history will easily learn of Cambodia's historical role as provider of sanctuary and refuge to thousands and maybe millions of displaced migrants or refugees forced to flee their native homelands for one reason or another down the centuries including Thais, Viets, Chinese, Laotians, and recently Montagnards or Hill Tribes of Vietnam. This is why you still have Lao-speaking Khmers in the village of Kset ('Ksat' in Khmer, or of Royal descend) in Svay Rieng, plus numerous Laotian villages across the north-eastern provinces of Cambodia today.

One may argue that these migrants had not come to Cambodia specifically to cut down trees, but they had used up more of the host nation's natural resources than just felling a few trees to make ends meet. If the Khmer Kings or their royal authorities had not been moved by compassion or the plight of the Siamese ancestors, the latter would have grave difficulties migrating southward and away from the turmoil caused by civil unrest or the great Mongol threat, and the Thais as a nation would still be a subjugated minority in southern China today. I realise this being an old fact, but fact it is nevertheless.

Thai Military’s Mistreatments of Khmer Civilians – 2/2

-----------------------

There are two related issues being raised here: A) How much of an effort has Cambodian government been making to protect its own subjects from risking their lives in this situation, both in terms of economic and educational policies geared towards alleviating the crisis in question?; and B) how much influence can Cambodia or Asean exert on the Thai government, forcing it to abide by international norms on its re-known ill treatment of civilians trespassing its territory?

One important misperception that needs to be corrected here is the notion that Khmer people have destroyed their own forests and are now looking to Thailand to do the same?

Well, ordinary people in Cambodia who have illegally cut down trees in their country may have contributed to the destruction of national forest stock or primary forests, but their overall contribution is perhaps insignificant when compared to legally organised activities in this regard by corporate commercial interests and the State itself which approves (or has approved) of these activities. There are many independent studies and reports on this subject.

Traditionally, Khmer people selectively cut down trees for timber to build houses, pagodas boats etc.; collected dead tree branches for fuel and so on. These practices had gone on for centuries without significantly affecting the environment or the overall forest stock. They also applied the same sustainable approaches to other natural resources like fisheries and land use (for cultivation purposes). The vast majority of Khmers would also struggle to meet the cost of a chain-saw or that of a heavy tractor or truck with which to facilitate the logistics and transportation of fell logs on a large scale, let alone competing with timber companies on the processing and marketing fronts.

One may recall Khmer refugees or survivors in their hundreds or thousands who sought refuge along the Khmer-Thai border in 1979 only to be taken by the busloads to one of the peaks of the Dangrek mountain range and forced by the Thai military to march down the steep cliff and onto a mined field below. What national security threat did these innocents pose to Thai society then? How many trees did they chop down?

Not long ago some Thai nationals walked leisurely across the border into Cambodia armed with a video camera as though they were touring one of the country's ancient ruins. It took a while before a lone Cambodian border policeman turned up on a rusty motorbike (who was probably unarmed!), halted their progress and eventually transferred them to Phnom Penh. Two of these Thais are still being detained in a Cambodian prison for charges relating to - among other things - (as far as I know) spying or espionage. If this main charge turns out to be justified, then their crime is far more serious or harmful to another country's national security or welfare than the alleged illegal tree-cutting activities of those Cambodian civilians. Yet none of these Thais have received the kind of barbaric treatment that their military had meted out to Khmer civilians over the years.

NB: Author wishes to apologise for the necessary length of this note.

Only barbarians killed another human like this. They are unarmed and they should arrested and sent to court, not killed like animals.
People don't know where the borderlines are. Often, Thai soldiers pushed in and occupied many areas along the borders that belong to Cambodia and claimed as Thai territory. This was what happened during the Khmer Rouge era in 1977 and that's why there were fierce fighting and killings. I think that those territories are Khmer territory, but occupied by Thai troops.

I agree with many commentors that it is not the first time. The question who give a dam about Khmer? Millions of Khmer dead under the Khmer Rouge and it took over 30 years to have the first trial and 002 case moving at snail speed and possibly sabatosh by 003 and 004 cases. However, if a foriegner die, then the case will be in extreme rushes to be solved. Why? Khmer life is value as others.

Anonymous said...

Khmer government needed to call the Thai's to the carpet on this issue. If you dont protect Khmer lives, Who will? you will not have any more army to protect the country. You have to make the Thailand pay for this. I am sorry to say, Khmer government willing to have Khmer die for the stone of Preah Vihea but not the real Khmer lives. If Khmer government dont act now, then it is nothing but a political game on Preah Vihea.

Since Pheu Thai Party won the election on July 3, and the Prime Minister-elect Yingluck Shinawatra, the younger sister of Thaksin Shinawatra, what Mr. Hun Sen claimed his eternity friend with Thaksin.

The Thais government will PROBABLY have better relationship with Mr. Hun Sen government than the previous one, and soon the two Thais, Veera and Ratree Pipattanpaiboon were arrested last December on charges of espionage while inspecting border areas near Sa Kaew province. They were sentenced to eight and six years respectively, will more likely release soon.

MAYBE THAT'S ALL RIGHT WITH MR. HUN SEN TO ACCEPT THIS RECENT KILLING BY THE THAIS SOLDIERS TO THE CAMBODIAN PEOPLE, THAT'S OK FOR 10-20 CAMBODIAN PEOPLE TO DIE BY THE THAIS LIKE ANIMAL.
