PHNOM PENH
(The Cambodia Herald) -- Opposition leader Sam Rainsy on Tuesday said
that his party hasn't yet received any letter from King, Norodom
Sihamoni to convene in the National Assembly’s first session on September 23.
"The
CNRP doesn't believe that a letter was sent by the King to National
Election Committee president, Im Suosdey, to convene the first session
of parliament because the King hasn’t yet sent any letters to our
lawmakers regarding the parliamentary session," Sam Rainsy told
reporters during a visit to Orussey market.
He said lawmakers of the Cambodian National Rescue Party (CNRP) will not attend the session if a proper solution is not found over the alleged election irregularities.
The CNRP has already set a date for
their next mass protest beginning from September 15 to 17, and
according to them it will be bigger than the one that took place this
past weekend.
They're demanding the establishment of an independent poll inquiry committee to probe into the alleged election irregularities.
Opposition party leaders, Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha are scheduled to welcome the return of King, Norodom Sihamoni on Wednesday at Phnom Penh International Airport.
The King is returning from routine medical checkup in Beijing, China.
