PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- The Funcinpec
Party is planning to prepare documents to sue Kong Korm over his
comments linking King Norodom Sihanouk to the coup of 1970, said a
senior official from the Royalist Funcinpec Party.
Kong Korm,
President of the Sam Rainsy Party, said last month that the late King
Father Norodom Sihanouk ordered Marshal Lon Nol to lead a coup against
the Cambodian government in 1970.
Nhiek Bunchhay,
Secretary-General of the Funcinpec Party, said Kong Korm exaggerated and
misconstrued history and that was unacceptable to him and his party.
“I want Kong Korm to make an apology to the late King Father because his comments accused the King unjustly”, Bunchhay said.
Kong
Korm could not be contacted for further comments, but had recently
dismissed any charges regarding his comments, stating that he did not
mean to say the 1970 coup was prepared by the King Father.

Funcinpec is not even a bonafide political opposition party, it is just an offshoot of Hun Sen's CPP.
In 1969 , Sihanouk who was the Cambodia Head of the State , chose Lon Nol as
the country Prime Minister . Lon Nol was also instructed by Sihanouk to seek support
of Son Ngoc Thanh armed forces on the Prince's plan to expel the Vietcong Force
out of Cambodia territory . At that year , Prince Sihanouk normalized the relation with
the USA and he did not object the US bombing Vietcong in non populated Khmer land . The coup in 1970 was not part of Sihanouk's plan , it was the conspiracy of Prince
Sirikmatak who forced Lon Nol at gunpoint to go along ....allegedly for personal interest . Sihanouk retaliated by putting his personal interest ahead of national interest - joined his foes as they promised to restore his power back . Sihanouk was duped .
This will be too big a case for Khmer Court , Mr Nhek should seek justice in International Court of Justice for true justice and should not use Hun Sen court for
political gain .
