NRP submits documents to NEC [without Sam Rainsy's name]

PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- The newly-formed National Rescue Party (NRP) has submitted its candidates' list without the inclusion of Sam Rainsy's name Friday afternoon to the National Election Committee (NEC).

Ho Vann, vice president of the NRP in Phnom Penh, said we submitted our list of candidates to the NEC at around five o’clock this afternoon.

We included 264 candidates including reserve candidates for representation in 24 cities and provinces, he said, adding that Sam Rainsy’s name was removed from the list of candidates.

The NRP will still keep Sam Rainsy as president of the party, Ho Vann added.

Tep Nitha, secretary general of the NEC, said the NEC has received the candidates' list from the NRP, and currently our officials are examining their documents before registering them for July’s election.

He added, currently six political parties have submitted their candidates' list to the NEC, but only four parties have been officially recognized and registered while the other are under examination.
