The design of the five-star Mittapheap hotel to be completed in Sihanoukville in 2014.
The five-star, 17-storey Mittapheap Hotel in Sihanoukville province, being constructed by Khouch Asia Company, is on track to be completed in 2014 as planned, according to the project manager.

The company is aggressively developing the project and the first floor has just been completed.

“We hope we can finish the fifth floor in the next three months,” said Tous Saphoeun, project manager of Khouch Asia Company, noting that the hotel will have 500 rooms and is costing about $20 million.

The numbers of local and international tourists visiting Sihanoukville province are increasing every year, but there are not enough hotels to meet the growing demand, especially during the longer holidays, and “there are not enough rooms for tourists, if they haven’t booked at least one month before,” he said.

He added: “Currently there is only one five-star hotel, the Sokha Hotel. This new hotel is more fashionable than the existing one, with a variety of services such as three restaurants, a 500-seat conference room, and five other smaller conference rooms.”

The five-star hotel development project in Sihanoukville is very important, said Luu Meng, president of the Cambodia Hotel Association, adding that “the hotel industry runs smoothly, depending on only increasing numbers of tourists. Five star hotel services in the first year may find it difficult to attract customers, but after that demand will gradually increase”.
Luu Meng said, "Although we already have one five star hotel [Sokha Hotel] in Sihanoukville province, our hotel sevices can’t meet the growing demand, especially during holidays.

"So Mitapheap Hotel may help to meet this short supply. It is good because tourists can stay at a five star hotel in Sihanoukville, Siem Reap, and in Phnom Penh.”

However, Mittapheap Hotel doesn’t have a big private coastline like the Sokha Hotel and Independence Hotel, said Sorn Seap, CEO of KY Real Estate Company.

“I think the project has been running well so far, but it will not not be able to complete very soon. It’s good for the future because the Cambodian government is supporting the development of the coast in Sihanoukville and Kampot to attract more tourists,” he said.

“If the numbers of tourist are increasing, it will also help to improve the property sector - selling and buying will grow and the price of land will also rise,” he added.
