PHNOM PENH, 9th August 2012 (Cambodia Herald) - Prime Minister Hun Sen said Thursday that the maritime boundary between Cambodia and Vietnam had not yet been solved but that Cambodia had lost its claim to Koh Trol.
"Accusations have been made that Cambodia has lost 10,000 square kilometers of sea to Vietnam," he said during a marathon five-hour address to the National Assembly.
"In fact, however, the maritime boundary with Vietnam has not yet been determined and not a single drop of seawater has been lost to Vietnam."
To determine the maritime boundary, Hun Sen said Cambodia’s position was to use the Brevie Line, a line drawn up in 1939 by Jules Brevie, the French governor of Indochina.
By using the Brevie Line, however, Cambodia lost its right to claim Koh Trol, a large island off Kampot now known as Phu Quoc which has been administered by Vietnam since 1939.
Hun Sen said Cambodia had maintained its position to use the Brevie Line to determine the maritime boundary with Vietnam since the King Father ruled Cambodia in the 1960s.
In 1964, he said, the then Prince Norodom Sihanouk used a map with the Brevie Line for the international community and Vietnam to recognize its maritime boundary.
Hun Sen added that the King Father had tried his best to protect Cambodia’s territory.

I don't know why govt didn't put troop in koh tral to protect It during pol pot or before pol pot's time or whatever?
Man, Koh Tral is the biggest investment for cambodia to build economy, beaches, hotel, casino, high rise building, bring all tourists from around the world...If we still have the Island today? I guess, we were too busy killing each other during pol pot....no one seems to care?
Koh Tral was long gone. The question is what about Koh Wai and Koh Tang ?
What are in those treaties regarding Koh Wai and Koh Tang?
Koh Tral belongs to the Khmer. The 1991 Paris Agreement Act means the Vietnamese had no right to take the Khmer territory and land. Koh Tral belongs to the Khmer and was under illegal treaty signed by Hun Sen to the Vietnamese.
In fact, Hun Sen also signed many illegal treaties, such as the exporting of illegal timbers and forest, from Svay Reing to Cardamon Mountain.
The Vietnamese had no right to take our land Koh Tral, which is a 4KM from the Khmer land but over 50KM form the Vietnamese land.
