និមល សោភា ជានាមពុំងា មាសស្ងួនព្រលឹង

មុនបងបែកអូន ជាគូដណ្ដឹង បងខំសម្លឹង គន់អស់កាយស្រី។

អូននាងបែរខ្នង គេចមុខពីបង មិនព្រមស្រដី រួចរត់ចុះស្រែ

បង់ក្រមាថ្មី ដែលពៅពិសី ត្បាញដោយដៃឯង។

អូនថ្ពក់ក្រមា លើមែកព្រឹក្សា រួចយំក្ដែងៗ រត់លើភ្លឺស្រែ

ឱយបងកណ្ដែង កណ្ដោចក្រៃលែង មុខពុកម៉ែស្រី។

បងស្រាវក្រមា មកផ្ទាប់ឱរា ជង្គង់លុតដី មើលស្នាមជើងអូន

ដែលសល់ថ្មីៗ បងមិនតាមស្រី ខ្លាចថ្លៃរត់ឆ្ងាយ។

រហូតសព្វថ្ងៃ បងនឹកមមៃ ទ្រូងគ្មានរសាយ

សល់តែក្រមា តំណាងឆោមឆាយ តែកែវចរណៃ 

ថ្លៃមិនត្រឡប់។

បងគ្មានដំណឹង មិនយល់អូនខឹង ស្រឡាញ់ឬស្អប់ 

ឬអូនស្លាប់កាយ ឬមានគូគាប់ បងសែនអភ័ព្វ រស់ជាពោះម៉ាយ។

សង្ស័យសោភា រត់ជួបពួកមារ គេជំរត់ឆ្ងាយ បង្ខំមាសស្ងួន

ទាំងចិត្តទាំងកាយ រួចលក់ចរណៃ ឱយពួកមានប្រាក់។

Kmas Os Baksa by Ung Nary

Thank you reader for the wonderful piece of poetry above. I hope you'll write some more, if only for people like me who can't write such beautiful poems! 

I can't thank that kind reader enough for mentioning Mr Ung Nary. Above song is one of my great favourites. Yet until now I never had reason to doubt that it was sung by Mr Sin Sisamouth! Whilst travelling through Chamka Somroung [excuse the Romanised spelling!] I rehearsed a line from this song - 'chamka somroung koung kaj avei mles, kjom dam ke bes kmean kdei meta, kjom pjur ke rorng ke roum snaeha . . .' - only to hear a foreign colleague saying 'Sin Sisamouth'! in perfect Khmer accent. Surprised, I asked how she knew this, to which she explained that her Khmer tutor had taught her some verses from Sisamouth's songs. So it seems that even the said tutor was unaware of the similarity in the two Khmer singers' vocals. Early evening that same day, I decided to go and pay homage to the famous guarding lions by the foot of the Steung Sangke bridge. The scenes were just as they were in the famous song below; vendors by the roadsides; small huts perching by either bank of the river, but at a time when a nation was still bearing all the visible scars of war's pitiless ravages, and brought down to its knees by the cruelties of men. Yet amidst all of this the lions and the song both survived and stood as though in undying witness to an eternal love . . .  School of Vice
