AKP Phnom Penh, November 18, 2011 –Cambodia will start a feasibility study on 700-kilometer missing rail link soon following a Memorandum of Understanding signed on Oct. 10 by Cambodia’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport and a company of Chinese Railway Ministry.
The two railways will be constructed with a Chinese fund. The one links from Kampong Thom province to Stung Treng province, running through Preah Vihear province, and the other links from Snuol district of Cambodia-Vietnam bordering province of Kratie to Cambodia-Laos bordering area, running through Stung Treng provincial town.
A mechanism for constructing the two rail links was set out in a meeting held in Phnom Penh on Nov. 16 between Cambodia’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport, and Nanning Survey and Design Institute Co., Ltd. of China Railway Siyuan Group.
Zhang Beiruil, director of Nanning Survey and Design Institute Co., Ltd. of China Railway Siyuan Group said his company prepared a fund of US$5 million for carrying out the feasibility survey on building the two rail links.
The company has to conduct the study in conformity to ASEAN standard and modern techniques, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport H.E. Sokhom Pheakvoanmony said of technical works.
In the first phase, the study will be carried out on 270-kilometer rail link from Cambodia-Vietnam bordering province of Kratie to Cambodia-Laos border province of Stung Treng, as the project has economic potentials and the requirement for the construction is imposed in a priority, he said.

Cambodia need to rebuild Its railway systems all around the country and throughout the cambodia...Because tourists love traveling and sight-seeing countryside...The railway we have now is junky, piece of crap!
I would like to travel from Phnom Penh city to Battambang city by bullet train(Railway), instead of capitol bus...or Neak krohom bus co. They are not comfort?
It freak'n takes time people, so just be patience. Don't procrastinate too much. Many good things are happening for Cambodia. As far as infrastructures, much need to be done consider Cambodia was just woke up from a very long war conflicts. There was an absent of progress for over 30 years. It wouldn't be a fair to compare Cambodia to other neighbors for their level of progress and development due to their political stability in their country. However, given times with stable government and steady economic growth, Cambodia will catch up to rest of them and may surpass some of them because Cambodia is has great potential.
7:34 AM, it is fair to compare Cambodia to Vietnam because we've been in war for the same period. Also, it is fair to compare Cambodia to Japan, Israel, Taiwan, Singapore and South Korea because they have emerged from the ravaged of war for similar period (about 20 years) and have done very impressively because their leaders are smart and non-corrupt. Read the history of these countries and you will know. Japan was just reeling from the devastation caused by the atomic bombs in 1946 and by the early 1960s it was already an economic power with mass productions of cars and with strong heavy industries. South Korea emerged from the 1953 war with North Korea, with the help of America and by the 1970s it was already economically sound. Singapore got independence in 1965 and by the early 1980s it was already Southeast Asia's economic powerhouse. Vietnam emerged from war the same time as Cambodia but it is economically much better than Cambodia. Israel was founded in 1848 and by 1967 it destroyed all 5 countries' army (Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Lebanon)in just 6 days in the so-called 7 Day War. The same with Taiwan.
So, there is no excuse as to say that we cannot compare Cambodia to other countries because Cambodia has ravaged by wars for so long, but it is fair to say that other countries I have described above have gone through wars also but have emerged strongly, economically and militarily. This is because their leaders are smart and non-corrupt, as compared to our present leaders who are incompetent and very corrupt.
Fuck Vietnam. Vietnam has its reconstruction starting since 1975, Cambodia? Around year 2000. So only about 10-12 years ago. Fuck Vietnam. When Vietnam so-called agree to withdraw from occupying Cambodia, America promises economic reconstruction for Vietnam. That's why Vietnam's economy is doing good now. As for Cambodia since 1991, hardly any help as far as reconstruction, just plenty of UN political bullshit. With Hanoi's puppet Ah Hun Sen incharge of Cambodia, it only take longer. Cambodia is in a difference situation than other countries like Japan and South Korea. These countries has America as a main sponsor in reconstruction after the war. America pump shit load of money to help rebuilt them. I agree with 7:34 AM, it's not a fair comparing Cambodia to which ever country you want to compare to. It does take the right leader and much help from the outside to rebuilt the country but in the situation of Cambodia, it a difference story of her own.
In my point of views most our leader are fucking dumbest that why we've lost most of our land to the enemies. Why we like to choose the fucking dumbest one to lead the fucking country.
