Cambodia: Beware of Thailand's tricks

I appreciated the point-by-point ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ). We may not know what is the ICJ agenda, but it is clear that the ICJ wanted to avoid more armed clashes which is understandable.

By creating a demilitarised zone (DMZ) without a time frame when the final ruling will commence or will there be final ruling at all, could potentially setup for both countries to fight generations after. I must say, after reviewing the ruling, Cambodia doesn't have much option, except to comply with the order and must work hard to dig its ways to victory in the future, I hope.

I would encourage the government to look into long term future conflicts if this issue doesn't get resolved in a clear-cut. In my opinion of the ruling, Cambodia has the Temple, but Thailand has the temple's staircase/ladder. In order to access the temple, you need the walk way to get into the temple as indicated by Thailand to inspect Cambodian personnel from access the DMZ.

Cambodia needed to be cautious with the talks as Thailand is taking an initiative to resolve the issue which is out of Thailand's character in the past. Thailand will want to shift the gear into bilateral talks as it wanted from the beginning but Cambodia cannot trust Thailand, that's why Cambodia needed to stick with 3rd parties involvement in the talks. The other sticking point that Cambodia need to be on alert is that Thailand will try to shift the talk to General Border Committee (GBC) to implement the order from the court.

I am not saying that the GBC from Cambodia's side is weak but on the technicality and details regarding implementation of the withdrawal; I would urge that Cambodia do not make any decision without group consultation and approval from PM Hun Sen. Remember, GBC was not the one that was involved in the court proceeding, therefore their knowledge is limited, even though the information has been shared with all the teams, I assumed.

Cambodia should take the initiative rather than waiting for Thailand to call the shot all the time for talks to resolve/implement the court order. Cambodia should be proactive and show Thailand who is in charge. Come with prepared agenda rather than have to always respond to Thailand's agenda. This way you have time to think what you really wanted and how you wanted it. I don't mean to give advise or get carried away with my comment. I am sure the government has many great advisors.. What can I say, I am Khmer and I love Khmer.

If I read the transcript correctly, it did say Cambodia have full access to the temple. So Thailand don't own any staircase or ladder.

Dear all Khmer Nationalists:

I think that this provisional rule in this time absolutely favor Cambodia. If we analyze how the judges voted, you will know that only one judge that rejected Cambodian proposal on most of interventions. Most of the votes always got 15 vs 1. Only the same judge, Donogue rejected Cambodian claims. Other 15 judges support all Cambodian side. If I were judges in ICJ, I would do the same way since I did not interpret the 1962 ICJ's rule yet. I think during discussion about those interventions, all judges supported Cambodian claims. However, they just created the same opponent to all their interventions. Don't you think it is a clue that the judges tended to support Cambodia, the victim already?

As long the two countries don't have clear bordered markings. the clash will continue. They need to mark the border clearly.
