Re: Puth Tumneay: Buddha's prophecy.
Well....let look at the belief in the Western World, they believe that they can conquer anything with their ingenuity and firepower. This is no difference than the belief of Khmers during Angkor era. If Khmers during that time believed that they wouldn't be able to build Angkor Wat and many other countless temples inside their empire, Cambodia wouldn't have Angkor Wat, and Khmer would never earned the bragging right as "Wonder of the World", correct? From then and now, what has happened to Cambodia? Apparently, something came true. Hmmm..could it be the prophecy. From now, if the prophecy predicted that Khmers will enjoy peace and happiness and damn Thailand, then more likely, that might come true.
Let's look at the Western world again. I'm sure we're quite familiar with the European colonialism around the world in the last several centuries. What happened? England, Spain, France and Portugal had once thought that they were invincible with all the territories they colonised around the world. Now, beside the countries they had once influenced, they all have almost nothing except the original land of their own, at the same time facing threats of losing their own cultures and identity from immigrations from the countries they once colonized. Imagine that. We could say, "What comes around, will go around."
America is also going through its own doom and gloom predictions. America is seeing itself slipping away from first place of world superpower. As predicted by Biblical prophecy, China will invade America. In what term is the question? Apparently, China is taking over the world by storm in economic front. Could this be the invasion of America by China or something more sinister? We have to wait and see. Let's not being naive. The point is, you can believe what you want of your own fate or your nation's fate. But this belief cannot escape the ultimate outcome, your Karma. Your Karma dictate your fate.

The decline of Western influence was mainly due to their geographic locations and distances from their colonies. Do you think that the Vietnamese and the Thai will decline in this fashion and benefits Khmers based on their geographic location to us? Don't forget about their population sizes, which are 6-8 times larger than Cambodia respectively.
As for America, do you see them ceding any land back to the Mexicans or the Indians? I don't think so.
Yeah, what comes around, goes around, maybe, but fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your belief, you or I won't live to see it.
As for China invading America, I doubt it. The bible also predicted the end of the world is coming along with a lot of other prophecies as well. Maybe our conversation is meaningless here.
I may agree with you with the Khmer belief during the Angkorian period, but we're so way off from that now. We're lucky to just keep what we have into the foreseeable future, especially with the neighbors population kept on growing much faster than ours. The only possible way is if there is a third world war where somehow the Vietnamese and the Thais will get destroyed and as a result, we can benefit from it.

This is very interesting article. In Americia, among minority groups; black are the second largest. However Spanish is the third largest; according to the census; it predicted that Spanish population will become the 2nd largest in 2025 and by 2050, spanish population become the majority in America. What does it means? Well, it could mean that American will probably has Spanish president. What about Khmer? Khmer Krom has about 8 millions according to number suggested by Khmer Krom groups. If Vietnam became democracy country and allow it peoples to choose their own leaders; Khmer Krom will definately rise to the top. In Thailand, we have already seen Khmer Surin in high powerful position. Soon, Khmer Surin might become Prime Minister of Thailand. There are couple million of Khmer Surin in Thailand.
China invade America? nonsense and baseless.
Khmer Krom may possibly become a force but they must unite among themselves first. It's a big dream and will take blood and treasures to success that dream.
Khmer Surin is a history and can't be changed unless Cambodia has a nuclear bomb.
The difference is Khmer Krom has become Vietnamized and Khmer Surin has also become Siamized. Due to restrictions from these two countries Khmer Krom and Khmer Surin can't read and write Khmer and the young generations don't know Khmer culture. Some even look down on Khmers.
Buddha said "You are what you thought" If a man thought of negative, then negative energy will come but if a man thought of postive, then positive energy will come. Khmer needs to think positive and provide each other hope. Khmer has to dare to dream; without dream we are dead. Martin Luther King dare to dream. As you can see America has the first black President. Everything is possible if you dare to dream. Who would have thought Khmer Empire fall to the ground; as witnessed in Cambodia's history of destruction. Cambodia has to dare to dream of reunite ours brothers and sisters again and becomes the amazing place again as the center of world. I know I am dreaming, for now this is what I could do and encourage others to do the same.
Quite agree with you Warrior Blood. Some say that our optimism of Cambodia is dangerous. They think we are dreaming of something that could never happen considering the current situation of Cambodia. When we look at our past to gain inspiration, they think we are too proud of ourselves. Only our enemies want us to think that way. Such nagative people have low self estem, insecure, and lack of confidence. Such people procrastinate all the time and always see things in nagative perspective. By run and hide, they think this will make them safe from threats.
Our hope and dream as Khmer is to unite all of our long lost brothers and sisters who had been seperated from us by the forces of our enemies. There is nothing wrong with dreaming of one day uniting with them as one Khmer. Dream create hope, hope gives strength, strength can overpower challenges. Conquering challenges make dream come true.
don't mean to be a pessimist or try to kill anyone dream, especially our Khmer family. I have dream too, but I'm also a realist. Don't forget that Pol Pot and his clique had dream too. Look at what happen and we continued to suffered from his mentally ill-prepared dream of running the country and trying to recover Khmer Krom. Lucky that the International Community were able to forced out the Vietnamese or else we're still be slaving for them without a land to call home of our own. Work hard methodically with, build your capacity, be nimble and strike at opportune time. Someone say a journey of a thousand miles start with the first step.
9:54 PM, so realistically, what is the best thing to do for Cambodia if optimism and dream might turn out to be like another Pol Pot's? Should Khmer stop being optimistic and hopefully, this should erase any possibility of another nightmarish Pol Pot? Hitler of Germany in WW2 had a dream. Germany lost the war, did German people stop dreaming of uniting and building their country after Hitler? Does the unification of East and West Germany has anything to do with optimism and dreaming of German people? Let me guess your answer. Cambodia is not Germany, so Cambodia will never rebuild to become strong and to unite all their people because Cambodia is a piece of shit, right?
9:45 PM responding. You guessed my answer wrong. Cambodian could have been what South Korea or Thailand or even Germany today if only Sihanouk didn't run to China, didn't allow the US built an airport on our land to fight the Vietnam War. He then supported the KR because he was ousted from power. He didn't think long term, was selfish and didn't think about the nation first.
The way I see it, we preserve what we have, united all Khmer within, build our capacity, our economy with sustainable industries. Build a strong sustainable government institutions respected by the people that will give them a chance to be self sufficient with jobs, schools, and home, etc... Enhance our culture stronger that can be further admire by our lost brothers/sisters/neighbors in our former Khmer Empire to make them wants to struggle and join back with the motherland. Only then will we even have chance.
Dreams all you want, but when we can't even be self sufficient and support ourselves, who wants to join you.
Please, don't spread faults hope to the vulnerable and the naive. This is how a few are able to control the masses, which is how the Vietnamese is controlling the CPP now. They empowered a few to control the rest of the nation. Our enemies have studied us and know us well and this has always been their strategy to break us apart. We lack unity, long term goal and strategy. We need to break that and educate ourselves that when one of us falls, the rest can rise up with the same kind of determination and follow our path thru our established institutions and turn against each other for power.
sorry, last statement should have stated NOT turn against each other.
4:38 AM, wouldn't that be DREAMING if you want to preserve what we have, united all Khmer within, build a strong sustainable industries and economy, strong government institution, respect people, give them a chance to be self sufficient with jobs, outstanding school system, and good home, etc. Enhance our culture through remembering and admiring our lost brothers/sisters/nighbors.
Isn't that the article and a first few comments are about anyway. It just that they didn't put the way you like it, therefore; it's prabably just people DREAMING. You are spreading the same false and idealogy to the weak and vulnerable. You are being naive. You are a white sheep among the flocks, therefore, you don't have any thing better, except same old naive and pessimestic of Cambodia.
