A CAMBODIAN soldier has become the latest victim of clashes on the Thai border that have killed at least 17.
The two sides exchanged automatic weapons fire overnight and before dawn Sunday around the Ta Krabey and Ta Moan temples, which are in a disputed zone between the two nations, authorities on both sides said.
One Cambodian soldier was killed by shrapnel from an artillery round, Cambodian Defence Ministry spokesman Lieutenant General Chhum Socheat said.
In the 10 days since fighting began April 22, 16 soldiers and one civilian have died.
Some 18 Cambodian and 50 Thai soldiers have also been wounded, military officials said.
Thailand and Cambodia fought six times since 2008 over land disputed for more than half a century, but analysts say domestic politics on both sides is driving the current conflict, which has forced nearly 100,000 villagers on both sides of the border to flee their homes for refugee camps.

Every time I see our soldier casualty I feel sad if we have bullet proof vests some of our soldiers are still alive today bullet proof vest can cost some where between $500&1000 dollars how much our soldiers live cost less than $1000 dollars our politicians have to re-think about our soldiers safety as priority (criticize is the good thing our gov should not think otherwise Cambodia is belong to Cambodian every Cambodian can voice the opinion) is not just the bullet proof vest gas masks have to be on hands and better training will save lives .

Forget about the ICJ for now we already won it and irreversible Thai can drum up all they want we just go for more details but the important of the ICJ verdict is state " 1:if no annex I map the treaty between Siam-Franco never occur 2: according to the annex map Preah Vihear temple is under sovereignty of Cambodia " So annex map is legitimate and we have the legitimate documentation The ICJ is not in Thailand and impartial we can rest assure the clarification from ICJ is in our side .

Our gov should have plan B help is too far and take too long we have to improvise with some manoeuver and hit Thailand where it hurt the most medium range rockets have to be consider as deterrence in event the fighting is out of control we can hit their head quarter in Bangkok or at least we can destroy their airbase that will turn around the situation.

Those flakjackets worn by Thai soldiers aren't bullet proof. It may help protect shrapnels but not from a round coming out a barrel of an AK 47. Cambodia military is very new, not to mention the country itself is still poor. For Cambodia military to equipt her troops with fancy gears like Thai troops would be overkilled. Believe or not, less gears for a soldier means, he's mobile and able to shoot better and carry more bullets on him. Hell... Rambo didn't even have a shirt and he was kicking-ass. Seriously, there is advantage and disadvantage for each soldier. I think Cambodian troops are comfortable equip compare to Thai troops.
