Cambodia and Thailand are brother enemies

Khmer Chea Preah Ream, Siem Chea Preah Leak

The Khmer ancestors have warned next Khmer generations to beware of Thailand. In fact, they have even left their warnings in a poetic old saying: “Khmer Chea Preah Ream, Siem Chea Preah Leak, proyat orss dey nov doch Champa Islam Mohamed.”[Khmer is Preah Ream, Siam is Preah Leak, but beware that we might have no more land to live like the Muslim kingdom of Champa].

In other words, Preah Ream (Rama) and Preah Leak (Lashmana) are two inseparable brothers who are the heroes in the Indian epic, Ramayana. Preah Ream was the eldest brother of Preah Leak . So here, Preah Ream, Cambodia, is the eldest brother of Preah Leak, Siam. But, beware, they said, of Preah Leak (Siam) who would betray Preah Ream and would plunder all Preah Ream's [Khmer] lands like the kingdom of Champa Islam Mohammed who was being brutally wiped out of the World Map by the Yuons [Vietnamese] to the east of Cambodia, known today as “Hue or Central Highlands”. As a result of that plundering by the Annamites (Vietnamese), the Cham people of today are now homeless.

There are worrying signs of tensions between Preah Ream [Cambodia] and Preah Leak [Thailand] over Preah Vihear temple. This could escalate into war. It is a hot issue that has arisen from misunderstanding of the International Court of Justice Judgment of 15 June 1962 on the part of Thai politicians. The tensions have been exacerbated by incorrect and fraudulent belief by Thai partisans.

Thai and Cambodian troops have exchanged deadly gunfire from 4-7 February 2011 and again from 22-28 April 2011, which show that Cambodia has firmly stood up to foreign threats, a testimony to the Angkorean legacy and Khmer national pride. Many Cambodians said that the deadly gunfire had a positive side in that it served as a warning to Thailand that Cambodia is not as weak as Thailand thought it to be - that the Khmers are strong now and can protect their country's sovereignty and their heritage. And it shows that Cambodia will not let any countries, big or small, strong or weak, to invade or insult its Angkorean pride. In addition, the exchanges of gunfire reversed the flows of Thai products into Cambodia, a reversal that has enabled Cambodians ‘to show their culture’, a return to the authenticity of Khmerness.

3:30am,
I hate war,but I agree with you 100%. We can still have a dialogue, but prepare for a long war with Siem. The govt should budget the funds accordingly.

I don't like seeing war between Khmer and Siem, however; it appears war is emminent. It's a matter of time. When Thailand is constantly being very provocative toward Cambodia, Cambodia can only practice so much restraint. I don't think Thailand is preparing itself for prolong war with Cambodia, if it is highly desire to go to war with Cambodia. Thailand is gravely underestimating Cambodia ability to defend herself. Thailand is betting on vitorious win over Cambodia with its mighty military superiority to quickly knockout Cambodia in the initial stage of war. This usualy works like a charm for invader but what comes after that is what seriously matter.

One thing had proven in the 12th century of Champa invasion, and in the 20th century of 1980's of communist Vietnam invasion was that, the invaders failed miserably. In 1979 invasion, Vietnam military highly underestimated Cambodia's rag-tag, no shoes, no tanks, no aircraft, undiscipline, and can't shot army/militia made up of pro-China Khmer Rouge. After a decade of fighting, communist Vietnam troops fighting morals were slowly deteriating. An estimated of 50-60,000 Vietnamese troops killed. Ultimately Vietnam withdrew from occupying Cambodia. This had proven that Vietnam cannot take Cambodia by force. This is why Vietnam resort to using other cowardly tactics to invade Cambodia, like using Hun Sen and other Hanoi's puppets.

If Thailand highly desires to follow Vietnam's path, by all means, Thailand had better prepare itself to fight the dirtiest and the longest war in its history. There is no doubt, Cambodia will have every right to defend herself. It took 20 years to drive out Champa invasion in 12th century, it took roughly 10 years to drive out the Vietnam invasion in the 80's, if took more than 10 or 20 years to drive out the Thais invasion, Khmer are willing to sacrafice their lives to do just that. They have no other choice but to fight. If lost, it means the end of Khmer race. If victory, it would just simply means, a repeat of Khmer history defend her sovereignty.

10:52am,
Good and profound analysis. If it means the vanishing of our cultures and race, we will defend our border til death. As former President Reagan said, " Ours was a noble cause." Indeed, ours was and is a noble cause.
