Mr. Mao Monivan (pictured), a former MP from the Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) who had defected to the Human Rights Party (HRP) after being expelled from the SRP, had just been appointed deputy chairman of the HRP's Steering Committee and a member of the party's Permanent Committee. Mr. Mao's appointments were announced in a statement released to the media on Friday 8th April.
Mr. Mao Monivan told Deum Ampil that he is determined to help the HRP in strengthening democracy in Cambodia. "I will make a contribution deserving of the confidence that the HRP Steering Committee had in me. I will make the best effort to strengthen the HRP's capability so that it can achieve victory in 2013", he said.
Mr. Tith Sothea, government spokesman for the Council of Ministers, said the government and the ruling Cambodian People's Party are not concerned about Mr. Mao Monivan's new appointments in the HRP.
Mr. Mao Monivan has resigned as an MP and had been expelled from the SRP on 22nd March after he had launched a public attack on party's spokesman Yim Sovan and the party strongman Eng Chhay Eang.

1:43 PM, it's better than he joined the CPP. I don't blame him for joining Kem Sokha because he can't work with SRP leadership and because he was expelled from the party for speaking his mind. I admired him for not seeking personal benefits by joining the CPP.
