Nhiek Bunchhay (pictured), the powerful Secretary General of Funcinpec Party, has announced that he will sue three Funcinpec Party officials for faking documents and forging his signatures which indicated that he had signed documents to receive more than $6 million from two Chinese companies, SPEEDY BEST TECHNOLOGY and KAHUA INDUSTRY INVESTMENT.
According to a letter released by his lawyer, Mr. Dim Chhin Leng on Monday 21st February, Mr. Nhiek Bunchhay said that recently there are rogue people within the party who have forged documents and his signatures to show that he had received more than $6 million from Speedy Best Technology and Kuhua Industry Investment on behalf of the party but that he had hidden that money from the party for many months, but only told the party when some party members found out.
Mr. Nhiek Bunchhay said those documents are fake and were forged and distributed to participants at a meeting of the Party Permanent Committee on 18th February by Mr. Yim Savy, Phorn Chantha and Suong Phally, who are disgruntled members.
Mr. Dim Chhin Leng said Mr. Nhiek Buchhay will sue these 3 individuals for document forgery and to ask the court to punish them according to the laws.
In another development, a statement from the Funcinpec Party Spokesman's Office said that the party's extraordinary congress planned for 21st March 2011 will still go ahead despite a statement from party President Keo Put Rasmy, First Vice-President Lu Laysreng and Second Vice-President Prince Sisowath Sirirath that it will be postponed because Mr. Nhiek Bunchhay had planned to topple Mr. Keo Put Rasmy from the party president who still have another 7 months before the expiration of his term.
Recently, Mr. Lu Laysreng, a strong supporter of Mr. Nhiek Bunchhay, broke rank and wrote an open letter to party members detailing Mr. Nhiek Bunchhay's ambition of wanting to be party president and of committing many financial wrongdoings. Mr. Nhiek Bunchhay rejected Mr. Lu Laysreng's accusation by saying that the reason Mr. Lu Laysreng had turned against him was because he was angry because the party did not lend him of $1 million he had asked for. Nhiek Bunchhay went further by accusing Lu Laysreng, Keo Put Rasmy and Prince Sirirath of planning to stay in power for another 5-year term.
