Many political observers are asking whether the continued arrests of many high-ranking military and police officials are a sign of an internal power struggle within the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) as many officials arrested are loyal to Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Kheng and Gen. Ke Kimyan, who is Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Anti-Narcotic Unit.
The arrests of five police and military officials, Lt-Gen. Hun Hean, Col. Chheang Son, Gen. Samith Virak, Lt-Gen. Moek Dara and Gen. Peuy Pel, considered as close loyalists of Mr. Sar Kheng and Gen. Ke Kimyan, are being viewed by observers that Prime Minister Hun Sen is trying to purge the loyalists of his rivals- Mr. Sar Kheng and Gen. Ke Kimyan.
Asked what he think of the continued arrests of his loyalists during a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a university in Kanchiech district in Prey Veng province today's morning, Deputy Prime Minister Sar Kheng said all people must be accountable to their actions. "I think that everybody must follow the laws, respects the laws and do everything in accordance to their roles and duties. Whoever did the wrong things must be dealt with by the laws", he said.
Mr. Sar Kheng and Gen. Ke Kimyan came from another faction in the CPP, who are considered rivals to Prime Minister Hun Sen. All the arrested officials so far are their loyalists.

Yes, this is seem to be a power struggle where Hun Sen is trying to weaken Sar Kheng, Chea Sim and Ke Kimyan- all related by marriages. I believe that if Hun sen keep continuing to punch and keep on stepping on Sar Kheng's head, one day he and his group will strike back. I think the Chea Sim faction is waiting for the right moment to strike back at Hun Sen. If not, they will be destroyed by Hun Sen.
