Cambodia's enemies are Vietnam and Thailand

By Anonymous

Cambodia's enemies are Vietnam and Thailand. Currently, Cambodia's greatest threat is Yuon (Viet). Siem (Thai) saw the success of Yuon, and now they are copying what Yuon is doing to Khmers. Siem is starting to encroach into Cambodia by making false border claims, etc.

Unlike Hanoi, Bangkok is not puppeteering Hun Sen to make political moves, so it's Hun Sen who is up in arms in defending Cambodia from Thailand's invasion. No doubt, he is getting plenty of credits for that. That is one thing many Khmers support, including myself. However, he's not getting a damn credit for not stopping Yuon from encroaching into Cambodia. Yuon is the enemy that had much to gain from Khmer since Hun Sen ruled Cambodia. Since Hun Sen is Yuon's puppet, he's hopeless in defending Khmer territory. Only Yuons think that Hun Sen is doing the right thing. Hun Sen is playing dumb, blind, and mute about the whole situation.

This is where Sam Rainsy stepped in. Sam Rainsy is an independent politician. His supporters are patriotic Khmers who care about the future outcomes of Cambodia. His desires are to see Khmers are free from the Yuon germs that are always looking for an opportunity to infect Khmers. Khmers were always fighting 2 enemies. Hun Sen should feel proud of Sam Rainsy for taking an initiative to defend Khmer territory on the eastern front. Hun Sen is bowing down to Yuon, so any action to protect Cambodia by Sam Rainsy is a threat to Yuon, therefore Hun Sen had an obligation to protect Youn's interest. Hun Sen is being very patriotic against Siem but a toothless and voiceless old dog when it come to dealing with Yuon.

lol Hun Sen is much better than Sam? In what way? I can see that Sam is not the best leader right now, but at least he not putting Cambodia on sale! Please Open your eye and see Cambodia today.

Yes, Hun Sen is much better than Sam Rainsy in term of corruption, human right abuses and selling Cambodian territory to foreigners.

I'm Singaporean so I'm totally exterior to this debate about Sam Rainsy vs. Hun Sen. However, I really feel sorry for Cambodia and Khmer people for the way they are being treated by their neighbors. The worst is that your government isn't even defending your interests, especially with the Vietnamese. Cambodia is an amazing country with a great history and it's terrible to see how it is just handed over to the Vietnamese. Look at Singapore, we built ourselves facing threats from both Indonesia and Malaysia who had millions more people than us. However, with great leaders such as Lee Kwan-Yew, we managed to rise and to build a strong nation supported by a prosperous economy and a feared army. As a result, our neighbors never tried, at least since the 1970s, anything against us. Cambodia is now in the same state (economically at least) as Singapore was in the early 1960s. I hope you'll find yourself a Khmer version of Lee Kwan-Yew, a dedicated, uncorrupted and bright man to lead Cambodia and make it the great nation it deserves to be!

Thank you, Phillip Teo for sharing your country past experience with my fellow Cambodian people. You are right, we must have an uncorrupted and bright person to lead the country, my people have suffered longer, they have been abused by their own government from different regime one after another, my people have been abused and killed by our vicious neighbors time and time again, they went through many devastation from one generation to the next, there is no end in sight, simultaneously our lands, culture, and our natural resources gradually depleting to our neighboring countries.

And thank you for input and ideas.

Phillip Teo, thanks for your insightful observation of Cambodian affairs. True, Singapore is one of the smallest countries, yet it is one of the most successful countries because of smart leaders like Lee Kwan Yew and because Singaporeans are smart.

Lee Kwan Yee was a smart and highly educated strongman, but he was an elected strongman who led Singapore to prosperity. Hun Sen is a dumb and uneducated strongman who bullied his way into power and then led Cambodia to hell and misery.

Cambodia was a country that could achieve great height since gained independence from France in 1953. Proven fact was during Songkum Reasniyom of King Norodom Sihanouk in the 1960's. Cambodia was one of the most developed country in Southeast Asia. Imagine what Cambodia might be like, if no wars ever set foot in the country. The Vietnam war, Khmer Rouge, Killing Field, Vietnam invasion and occupation. These lenghtly wars had reduced Cambodia back to stone age. Now Cambodia is slowly picking herself up. Just when Cambodia is doing that, her enemies are trying to kick her to the ground. As usual, Cambodia is constantly dealing with 2 enemies.

We must never assumed that Cambodia never had a chance to have good leaders in last several decades or so. There were great leaders who could be very capable of leading Cambodia to a better future, however; an external foreign political influences play major roles in seeing Cambodia from running her own course. Pen Sovan was an example of a leader that could. As we all know, he was too good to be a leader for Cambodia, so he was jailed for 10 years for the love of his nation. So as long as there is an outside political pressure forcing down on Cammbodia to make certain political move, it would be very hard for Cambodia to progress at the speed she should. Nevertheless, Cambodia has high spirit and hope. It is hope that gives strength. It is strength that gives determination to free herself. The new generations have much better understanding of their history and politics that shape their country. They will be that strength to drive out what is pulling Cambodia down. They see what their parents and grandparents went through. They want a better future, so they have a duty and obligation to make their dreams into reality. Never give up the fight, even if it was your last breath.

Cambodia was a country with kind hearted Khmer people and peaceful. Khmer are so kind that the outsiders took advantages and want to own Cambodia. The country is in a transition for a new ERA of the new occupants and this is a fact not to mistake of what it appears to be. Is it too late? or was it predestine?. Poor Cambodian people lived to see what is happenings, is this what suppose to be for Khmer?
