Prince Norodom Ranariddh, the king's advisor and former prime minister of Cambodia, has officially returned to politics on Saturday and was elected president of the renamed Norodom Ranariddh Party after more than two years absence, vowing to reunite royalists and work in partnership with the ruling Cambodian People's Party to build the Cambodian nation.

The prince has officially re-entered politics today at a special party congress attended by 500 party faithful to change the name of the Nationalist Party to the Norodom Ranaridhh Party.

Two days ago, Prime Minister Hun Sen lashed out at the prince's decision to return to politics, threatening to sack him as the president of the king's Supreme Advisory Council, saying that his re-entry into politics will tarnish the image of the king and the monarchy.

Speaking to reporters after he was elected as president of the renamed Norodom Ranariddh Party, Prince Ranariddh said he will not respond to Mr. Hun Sen's threats, saying that he leaves the fate of his palace advisory role to the king to decide because that position was conferred to him by the king.

Immediately after the party's congress, the prince had instructed Mr. You Hockry and Mr. Sao Rany, the two Norodom Ranariddh Party MPs, to draft a protocol document to negotiate with Mr. Keo Put Rasmy's Funcinpec Party for a future merger. He added that the royalist movement had lost supports due to internal wrangling and past divisions. He also said that he has instructed party officials to collect 200,000 signatures that will be used for a merger negotiation with the Funcinpec Party.

Prince Ranariddh has agreed to leave politics after the 2008 election in a political deal with Prime Minister Hun Sen that saw him appointed as the supreme advisor to the king in exchange for him to support Mr. Hun Sen to become the prime minister.

The Hun Sen-Ranariddh's political tensions have concerned Ranariddh's father, ex-king Sihanouk, who quickly weighed into the political debate to ease the tensions by vowing to support Mr. Hun Sen to become prime minister until the end of his life.

I hope Sihanouk's life will end soon.

Did you see Mr.Sihanouk what kind of person he is " He vowed to support to PM Hun Sen" instead of his son. That's why Cambodia is ruined because of his wicked mind. What kind of father whose refuse to feed and support his own family ?. Maybe he's just two thicked faces, disorderly brain,or possibly he's an ass kisser all his life.Or maybe he fear PM Hun Sen...
