Everyday.com has quoted the Thai spokesman Panitan Wattanayagorn as saying that Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva (pictured) will travel to New York from 20th-27th September to attend the UN General Assembly. While in New York, Mr. Abhisit will meet with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon to discuss about the Preah Vihear issue.
According to Mr. Panitan, Mr. Abhisit plans to explain to the UN Secretary General about the Preah Vihear issue. The spokesman said Mr. Abhisit will tell the UN Secretary General that Thailand is opposed to outside help to resolve the Preah Vihear issue, saying that the two countries have mechanism to resolve the issue peacefully.
However, Mr. Abhisit was last week quoted by the media as saying that he will cancel the MOU signed in 2000 and use military means to settle the dispute. But now Mr. Panitan said the 2000 MOU signed between the two countries can help resolve the issue. "No country should be concerned about our problems because we will resolve the issue through the MOU", Mr. Panitan told the Thai media. He said Mr. Abhisit is confident that the Preah Vihear issue will not exacerbate.
