Thai authority at O'Smach's border crossing in Oddar Meanchey province has on Tuesday moved to restrict the activities and movements of Cambodian shoppers at a Thai border market, located about a kilometre from the borderline, reports everyday.com.
Mr. Vath Pharanin, chief of O'Smach Border Checkpoint, said that, started from last week, Thai authority has banned Cambodian motorised vehichles, even motorbikes, from being driven from the border to the market. He said only push-carts are allowed and all Cambodian shoppers must ride on Thai vehicles to go to the market.
He said the new measures was taken after Thai people protested against allowing Cambodian vehicles to drive to the Thai markets.
Many Cambodians frequented the markets in great numbers daily because they can use their own modes of transport. However, many said that they might not come as often as before because the trip has become too expensive after Cambodian vehicles are banned.
Mr. Chan Tha, a villager living near the border who used to bring his wife to the market on his own motorbike, said he won't come to the market anymore because he can't afford the travel expense. "My wife has to spend about 5,000 riels ($1.25) to travel on a Thai motor taxi. Their new policy has caused a lot of difficulties to us", he said.

fucking siem thief change the policy again
Cambodia should restrict Thai import to Cambodia. At present, Cambodia only export about $90 million per year to Thailand, while Thailand exports nearly $2 billion to Cambodia. Thailand gains a big trade surplus with Cambodia. If border is closed or restricted, Thailand is the one that will lose more.
Our people need to start producing our own products to use domestically, so we do not depend on the products from Thailand and Vietnam to survive. Our government must aggressively involve in assisting our people to produce our own goods. And then we shut down the border completely on both sides.
