The opposition Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) yesterday has denied the pro-government Kampuchea Thmey's report that it had produced a "secret" document that devised a plan to reshuffle or rotate the position of MPs half way into their 5 year term, reports everyday.com.

The SRP said that Kampuchea Thmey's claim was intended to divert attention away from the the government's failures to tackle many important national issues.

In its yesterday's edition, Kampuchea Thmey claimed that it had obtained the SRP's "secret document" which detailed that SRP's members of parliament from 7 constituencies will be reshuffled half way into their 5 years term and replaced as MPs by new candidates. The newspaper claimed that MPs from Phnom Penh, Banteay Meanchey, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Kampong Speu, Kandal and Prey Veng, which have more seats than other constituencies will be replaced in mid term.

Mr. Yim Sovan, spokesman for the SRP, categorically denied the claim, saying that the "document" obtained by Kampuchea Thmey was not an official document. He added that the party has not made any decision to replace the MPs mid term as claimed. "We do not pay any attention to this issue [the newspaper's claim] and up until now we have not made any changes yet", he said.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Hun Sen publicly claimed that he had received information that the SRP had plans to reshuffle or rotate the position of Members of Parliament half way into their 5 year term.

No, they will lose for sure because the newspaper is Hun Sen's newspaper. I think the SRP has to come clean whether the "secret" document existed or not. The secret document, if it exists, may be just a minute of the meeting. It is not a big deal, but Hun Sen knows how to use this issue to destabilize the SRP. If the topic of MPs' reshuffle was discussed then it has a potential to make sitting (current) MPs feeling nervous, despite it would make the new candidates happy. I think the sitting MPs will defect to the CPP when they lose the MPs' job. This could trigger a domino effect - other would follow and SRP might be in a big trouble. Remember, Hun Sen has been planning to try to break up the SRP for some times already.
