Prime Minister Hun Sen has ordered the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction to remake the map of Cambodia that will show newly-constructed roads and bridges to reflect the reality of the resent-day developments, reports Cambodian Express News.
Speaking during an inauguration of the Chinese-funded Prek Kdam Bridge on 31tst May, Mr. Hun Sen said newly-constructed bridges such as Prek Kdam Bridge and Sekong Bridge have not appeared in the map of Cambodia yet. He said it is sad that every time he read the map of Cambodia, he can't find these new developments.
He said it is time Cambodia updates its map so that Google, which in the past incorrectly published the map of Cambodia, to recorrect itself. Now, he can't find the newly-constructed roads and bridges in Google map, he said.
Mr. Hun Sen's call for the remaking of Cambodian map comes at a time when there are accusations that Cambodian borders had been encroached on both sides because Cambodian neighbours have used their unilaterally-drawn maps. Prince Sihanouk's government Cambodia had deposited a map of Cambodia at the UN in 1964 and there have been calls for the use of the 1964 maps as a base for any border negotiations with Cambodia's neighbours.
