Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong (pictured) said on Wednesday 2nd June that the Cambodian government will never extradite ex-Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra to Thailand, despite the Thai government has issued a warrant for his arrest, reports Cambodian Express News.
Speaking during a press conference, Mr. Hor Namhong told reporters that Mr. Thaksin is an economic advisor to the Cambodian government and Prime Minister Hun Sen, so he is free to travel anywhere around Cambodia. He added that the case against Thaksin is a political case, not a criminal case.
Mr. Hor Namhong's statement was made immediately after the government of Thailand has circulated an arrest warrant for Mr. Thaksin to 187 countries on charges of terrorism during the deadly government crackdowns on his red shirt supporters on 19th May which have killed more than 35 people.
Mr. Thaksin has been spotted in Paris, United Arab Emirates, Russia, Germany and Montenegro in recent times. As early as a week ago, he has reportedly been granted a citizenship by the government of Montenegro.
