Ex-King Norodom Sihanouk will pay an official 4-day visit to Vietnam from 22-25 June at an invitation of Vietnam's President Nguyen Minh Triet with the aim of strengthening the bilateral cooperation and tightening the solidarity between the two countries, reports Deum Ampil.

Oum Daravuth, spokesman for the Royal Palace and brother-in-law of the ex-king, said on Sunday that the ex-king's visit will not change and will start on 22 June as planned and will last until 25 June.

Ex-King Sihanouk's planned visit to Vietnam is a subject of controversy as opposition MPs have been actively pushing for him to raise border issues with Vietnam, a push that was angrily rejected by Prince Sisowath Thomico, the ex-king's advisor, who said that the ex-king has retired since 2004, by adding that neither the current king nor the ex-king has the constitutional powers to meddle in the politics and affairs of the state.
