Vietnam's largest fertiliser manufacturing company, PetroVietnam (PVFCCo), plans to export thousands of tons of fertilisers to Cambodia at a time when Cambodia's needs for fertilisers increased significantly due to expansion of rice and other crop productions, reports Radio Fance Internationale.

Accroding to the report, PVFCCo will invest $370 million and plans to open offices in Cambodia tomorrow (Friday 7th).

Mr. Nguyen Hong Vinh, Deputy Director of PVFCCo said the reason for his company's entry to the Cambodian fertiliser markets iss due to an increase in needs for fertilisers in Cambodia and his company's experiment in using PVFCCo's fertilisers in rice fields in Kampong Chhnang and Battambang provinces have shown that their rice yields increased from 2.5 tons per hectare to 8.6 per hectare.

According to the report, currently Vietnam is Cambodia's largest investor with investments ranging from rubber plantations, telecommunications, banking, mineral explorations, electricity, forestry and infrastructures. Two way trades between Cambodia and Vietnam reached $1.7 billion. And in 2010, it is predicted that they will reach $2 billion.

However, Cambodia suffers huge trade deficits with its neighbours Vietnam and Thailand. Cambodia's annual two way trades with Vietnam and Thailand almost reached the two bilion dollars mark. However, Cambodia had exported less than $100 million each to these two countries.
