Graffiti attack inside Tuol Sleng

From Scott Batsford

To whom it may concern

It has recently come to my attention that a UK Resident, one Fabrizio Cammisecra, has defaced Tuol Sleng museum in Phnom Penh with graffiti in an attempt to promote his so called graffiti “art”.

Here is his website with photos of him actively vandalizing S21, as well as Cheung Ek, with his signature tag graffiti (you must scroll the browser window sideways to view the images): http://www.codefc.org/S-21.html

My wife is a Cambodian National who lost many relatives to the Khmer Rouge. We will always hold in our hearts those who died in agony inside of S21. The selfish, self-promoting act of vandalism committed by Mr. Cammisecra is an open insult to the memory of the victims of the atrocity, to Cambodians and Khmers and to right thinking people world-wide.

I hope you will assist in contacting local, as well as Cambodian and international authorities and groups so that this individual is prosecuted and publicly shamed as a deterrent to others who might seek to exploit the memory of the innocent souls who perished in the terrible days of the Khmer Rouge regime. I also hope that Mr. Cammisecra receives a permanent blacklist from Cambodia.

Here are some further details of Mr. Cammisecera:

There's a big discussion on k440 about this. http://bit.ly/a5kXB7

This is disrespect to the soul of tens of thousands of people who died at Tuol Sleng. This guy had spray painted on the museum wall, it is public property so it is graffiti and vandalism. In America you can be fined with thousands of dollars for doing this. Sometimes, they can be made to clean up or jailed.

This person disgusts me. Tuol Sleng is a sacred place for Khmers and for the whole world. I'm sickened by this.

I condemn this act of vandalism. Tens of thousands were brutally killed and had tragically died at Tuol Sleng. This sort of graffiti is an insult to their soul and spirit.

I m writing this to apologize for the stencil in the S-21 prison
I swear it was not mean to be done in a selfish and disrespectful way . I have been to cambodia few times and was very moved by its beauty but also by it s horrors I make paintings as/for a living and it was only a way to express my feeling towards the atrocities that took place there as MANY turists before me did that as u can see on the walls all around the stencil .
it was also done few years ago and has been something that I m not proud of as many people see it negatively .. again it was not meant to be disrespectful. I ll be more than happy to come and clean it off if requested.
