A senior government official strongly reacted to a member of the Thai royal family who had written a letter to the Thai parliament asking it to remove Cambodian-Thai border issues from its discussion agenda, reports Cambodian Express News.
Radio France Internationale reported that a Thai mass circulation, AST Manager Online, had reported on Friday 7th May that Morm Luang Walwipa Charoonroj, a member of the Thai royal family and an historian from Thammasat University, had sent a letter to the Thai parliament asking it to remove its agenda on the debate and the ratification of the Demarcation Agreements between the two countries, from its discussion.
Mr. Tith Sothea (pictured), spokesman for the Press and Quick Reaction Unit, hit out at ML Walwipa Charoonroj, calling her an ultra-nationalist who had many times attempted to incite conflict and derail border agreements between the two countries. He had also accused her of being the mastermind behind the incitement of Thai extremists and unltra-nationalists to stir up troubles at Preah Vihear and other areas along the Khmer-Thai borders.
The Thai parliament is due to reconvene to debate a wide range of issues, including debating and ratifying border and demarcation agrrements with Cambodia. In a letter to the Thai parliament, ML Walwipa Jaroonroj asked the parliament not to ratify the agreements saying that ratification of the agreements will give Thailand a disadvantage edge.
Reacting to ML Wiwalpa Jaroonroj's letter, Mr. Koy Kuong, spokesman for the Cambodian Foreign Ministry, said it is true that Cambodia has an advantage edge over Thailand because Cambodia has in its possessions many internationally-recognised documents and maps to prove that the areas claimed by Thailand are Cambodian territories.
