SRP MP proposed the creation of an independent border commission

Mr. Yim Sovan (pictured), an MP and spokesman for the opposition Sam Rainsy Party (SRP), yesterday released a statement proposing that the government create an independent border commission comprising representations from all parties with seats in the parliament, not only comprising members from the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP), reports Deum Ampil.

The proposal from the SRP came after it accused the government of allowing Vietnam to plant border markers inside Cambodian territory in Chantrea district of Svay Rieng province.

SRP president Sam Rainsy, who was convicted and sentenced to two years jail for uprooting border markers in Chantrea district, had recently released a series of photographs and maps showing those border markers as locating inside Cambodian territory.

Mr. Var Kimhong, chairman of Cambodian Border Committee, rejected Mr. Rainsy's evidences and accused him of incorrectly pinpointing the border markers on the actual maps.

Mr. Yim Sovan said the reason he is proposing the setting up of an independent border commission because the border demarcations involve complicated technical issues which needed the bipartisan participation. Mr. Var Kimhong, however, said that the current Cambodian Border Committee is purely a technical border commission and that a new politically-motivated border commission cannot be created.

Good proposal but the traitorous CPP will never agree to this proposal. If such independent border commission is set up, then all CPP traitorous border policies will be exposed and the CPP does not want these policies to be known publicly.
