Mr. Hang Soth, director of Preah Vihear National Authority, said the temporary wooden stairs constructed from the Cambodian side to climb up to Preah Vihear temple have been 60% completed, reports everyday.com.

The temporary wooden stairs, constructed from the east of the ancient stone staircases, is 1310 metres long and comprising 6550 steps and is built in three stages. Each stage will have a rest area and a toilet. Mr. Hang Soth said these temporary wooden stairs will last at least between 20 to 30 years.

He said the permanent stone staircases will be constructed at a later date, but he refused to say when. He said the permanent stone staircases will cost around 12-13 million dollars to construct and will take a long time to complete because the Authority will have to find and transport natural stones from other areas to built them.

Mr. Hang Soth also said that during the Chinese New Year, the numbers of tourists to Preah Vihear temple had increased dramatically. He said in the last few days during the Chinese New Year, there are about 200 Khmer and 20-30 foreign tourists visiting Preah Vihear temple. Before the Chinese New Year, there are only about 30-40 tourists to Preah Vihear per day due to military tensions with Thailand.

These stairs can be a tourist attraction as well. It is historically important as it is built near the ancient stone staircase. Great job.
