CEDAC (Centre d'Études et de Développement Agricole Cambodgien) plans to export 200-300 tons naturally-produced Cambodian rice (non-genetically-modified rice) to Europe and America in 2010, if the exports of 32 tons to America at the end of November is successful, reports Radio Free Asia.

Dr. Yang Saing Koma, chairman of CEDAC, said the 32 tons of rice slated for exports to the United States have been packed and exported to markets in America for sample already. He added that CEDAC had hired overseas experts to supervise the milling and packing of the rice to ensure that it is up to the European standards.

Dr. Yang Saing Koma said, currently, Cambodia faces difficulty in meeting international standards in the milling and packing of rice due to the lack of expertise and technology.

Mr. Mak Soeun, director of Agriculture Department, said according to the statistics from the Cambodian Millers Association, Cambodia currently exported the high quality Rumduol and Jasmine rice to Hong Kong, Singapore as well as to Europe.

In 2008 and 2009, Cambodia has a rice surplus of 4 million tons and in 2010 Cambodia is expecting to have the surplus as 2008 and 2009 for exports to overseas markets.
